Trading a recall-affected Tundra

Just to dispel any myths that Toyota dealers aren’t taking recall affected trucks in on a trade…they are. I traded mine yesterday and made out alright. They weren’t the least concerned about the recall.

 

What did you buy?

 

Land Cruiser. Someone backed out, so I snagged it.

 

Sounds like a great experience! Certainly different than what I got from my dealer a month or so ago. They didn’t want my Tundra but were willing to auction it with the expectation that I would get about 50% of what I paid for it.

 

Sorry to hear that. These dealerships do seem to be all over the place from service, sales and basic customer service. I just didn’t want to wait until the recall replacements started.

 

Just curious but did they give you a crappy trade deal? Im also in the market for a new landcruiser.

 

2022 Limited TRD OR CM. They gave me $44,500 on trade.

 

45,700 was my offer to trade in for a new 2024 I have a 2022 limited the msrp was 56,600. 13900 miles FYI

 

Depending on the discount for the new one, that seems pretty reasonable for what is now and almost 3 year old truck even with the low miles.

I know a guy who got that on a garage kept, low mileage SR.

 

Ford, GMC, and Nissan all told me "I don't want that 2022 on my lot. I can't sell it. Not until the engine is replaced. Not to an informed shopper." Toyota took it though.

 

When I traded I checked with 5 different dealers. 2 Chevy, 2 GMC, and 1 Toyota (the place I bought it new). Three of them were around $5000 less on their offer so they were of the informed dealers who had concern. Of course the Toyota was one if them. Got $45,500 for an SR5 from a Chevy dealer.
