So I am new to 1st gen tundras and have done a fair amount of research and have read the long thread that is posted here as well. I just wanted some opinions on this truck I was looking at possibly purchasing. It is a 06 AC with about 145k miles, he says its a clean title with 3 owners and 1 accident. I plan on pulling the carfax soon and taking it to a toyota dealership for further inspection, but some of the issues I could see were the A/C sounded like it was on but wouldnt blow, stearing wheel would wobble when coming to a stop, when the steering wheel first turns right it clicks 3 times and feels like the wheel is rubbing once maxed out to the right, and some other smaller cosmetic or minor issues. He said it was a prior work truck and he could do $7500. I just wanted some advice so I can join the 1st gen tundra club with a great truck. Any advice on more things to look at when I go back and look again, would be appreciated.

Maybe they swapped a dash cluster?

It's probably what happened. Dash stores the mileage, not ECU.

    Weight reduction, mostly rust.
If you ever had to legitimately do that (replace the cluster) how would you document it properly, dealer? Can they calibrate a new one to your current miles?
That's a shame because that truck's frame looks pretty decent (nice for MI standards:D)

I would hope a dealer was able to do that. If you search for "speedometer calibration shop <your-city-name>" you'll find shops that are (legally?) authorized to do the work, I think?

When I sent my dash cluster out for repairs they sent me a email that they had inadvertently deleted my mileage and asked me to certify my actual miles which I did. Unfortunately, they screwed that up and subtracted 100K from the number. Other than that they did a good job on the repairs - stepper motors and bulbs. I just tell the shops my actual and will disclose when I sell that vehicle.
