I’m struggling getting the power steering pump back in after an alternator replacement. I have it in the bracket but it is an extremely tight fit. Trying to line up the holes, but I just can’t seem to get the long bolt to engage the back threads, so I figure I’m not in alignment.

I can’t see anything because it is so tight back there. I thought about using a slave pin but the exhaust manifold is blocking my way. Any ideas?

I just changed mine 3 months ago.

I did have the radiator and shroud out so I could have room to work.

Yea, I didn't do that, but totally see why Toyota recommends it for having a visual head on to it. Was hoping I could avoid that since I was able to remove the alternator without having to do that.

I was amazed too how difficult of a job changing out the alternator was. Took me 6 hours...and I have a lift. That job sucks!

Yea, I’m 4 hours in, no lift, but got it removed and reinstalled. I’m fighting with aligning that dang top bolt hole on the power steering pump to finish reassembly. The fit is so tight in the bracket that I can barely move it.

I changed my alternator as well. Did it on my lift and it took me about 3 hours. I remember struggling to get PS pump in and lined up with that damn bushing. I clocked it a few times with a punch the best I could, to seat the bushing. Think I even hit the face with a file to remove any burrs. Even then, I struggled getting that bolt to start. Be patient. It will go.

I got it Friday night, trial and error with my dead blow hammer, my pry bar and my phone trying to verify the hole was lined up. The end of the threads on the bolt are tapered which helped some.

I installed the short bolt first to where I only needed to pivot it for the longer one.

I remember when I removed it thinking it was going to be a real challenge putting it back on and boy was I right.

You have a 2020 tundra. How many miles did your alternator lasted?
