I read about that and its on my to do list if its not an actual issue when it goes in for warranty service. Since its due for recalls and warranty stuff already, Im planning to make them look into it at first....also forgot to mention im having an issue with the drivers side power door lock as well. Went to unlock my truck the other day and it beeped multiple times like the button was being repeatedly pressed, but didnt unlock, ended up having to open the passenger side door to pop the drivers side. Noticed it again when locking the truck it wouldnt beep, realized the drivers door wasnt locking.

Dang maybe I shot myself in the foot on this one and lessened my chances of getting a new engine. I never believed in the supposed 10K mile life of synthetic oil and have always just changed oil on new vehicles at 1k miles if bought new and every 5k with synthetic thereafter. Always felt it was cheap insurance. My tundra was mfg Feb 23 (don't know day) with only 15k miles on it so far, and my VIN is not part of the recall. Maybe I dodged a bullet altogether by changing the oil more frequently, or else have just delayed the blowup.

Did you do the oil changes? If so, did you take a close look for and debris or metal?

They showed me the oil at the 1k change (non-dealer, oil can henry's) and I did see some glitter, I expected some of this with a new engine though. The subsequent changes have all been done at the dealer and I never saw the oil.

There are number of ppl in the Engine blowout Spreadsheet who followed similar oil change patterns..

I followed the same pattern. Not sure if it helps with debris and/or potential design issues (bearings and short block part numbers changed).

I did in between oil changes myself plus the very first oil change at under 2,000miles. First oil change had LOTS of metal particles. Some very large.
Compared to my wife’s 2023 Venza first oil change, it was day and night difference..

It will be interesting to see what Toyota does with all the removed engines. Pretty sure they won't dump them in the ocean or just melt. To many valuable parts and alloys. Most likely they will disassemble them, inspect, replace the damaged parts, and if the rest of the engine looks OK, rebuild and reuse as "factory remanufactured" for warranty repairs or maybe even some of the recalled vehicles. That's what Toyota has been doing with transmissions for ages. Instead of fixing a bad transmission by the dealer, Toyota just sends them a "factory remanufactured" one, and rebuilds the old one reusing whatever can be salvaged. So some Tundras under the recall may not get a fully new engine, but a "factory remanufactured" one.
That said, a "factory remanufactured" transmission is usually accompanied with a 7 (or 10) years / 100k miles warranty extension, so maybe Toyota will do same if they use "factory remanufactured" engines to cover part of the recall.

Well this makes me a little more confident that I wont be stuck with a problem in 3yrs. So far no signs of trouble for my 2023 Tundra; but doesnt sound like there was much warning for those impacted. Atleast Toyota is addressing vs avoiding the problem.

I am a little more concerned with a failure as we use the truck with a camper way out in the boonies where few if any towing services will go, so would hope for a recall replacement sooner rather than later.

That could be the case; I’m just not sure I buy that the only problem parts come from TMMAL.

If you follow the part numbers (the four parts starting with 19000-), two of those are MIJ and two are MIA (at TMMAL). If the problem parts that Toyota identified came from Alabama only, then they would have only the TMMAL P/Ns.

Furthermore, there were V35A bearing failures in 2018 LS500s. Same speculation on Club Lexus (improper cleaning, oil starvation, etc). Lexus didn’t make a whole lot of them, and very few had an issue. The point is, the V35A wasn’t in the American market yet, and TMMAL wasn’t tooled up to manufacture V35A parts, so none of LS500 failures had parts manufactured in Alabama in 2018.
This sounds entirely plausible, but way too much speculative BS freely flows out of dealership tech’s mouths.

And now, my J-VIN Toyota soapbox. The idea that Toyota’s QC issues originate in the states is laughable to me. Go spend some time on the 200 series forum. Those are J-VIN vehicles. They use the same 3UR-FE as the Tundra/Sequoia but made in Japan. They have the same issues with cam tower seepage and timing chain rattle, and going by thread topics it appears they have more problems with coolant valley leaks than Tundras and Sequoias (probably because they run significantly hotter when doing any work). The 200 also ran a poorly designed radiator for 10 years before redesigning it in late 2018 (refer to this 93 page thread). No recall for the original design flaw. Another not terribly uncommon issue related to cooling is fuel boiling in the fuel line. Pressure builds up, and it vents out of your gas cap. P0441 code. Fun times.

I love my 200 and replaced my radiator with the updated part preventatively. If I used it instead of my Tundra at elevation, I would be installing a second transmission cooler in series, heat shields, and insulation wrap like Mud members who are trying to solve the issue.

So I bought a truck because I need a truck. Will they provide a truck rental?

   ;)
It all depends. My dealer told me they will be paying X$ per day for me to rent anything I want.
few other dealers told me they will provide a rental of “whatever is available”..

I guess it all depends on your luck. worst case scenario they will give you an old manual Yaris with 200lb payload.;):fingerscrossed:

It’s this post, and others of yours like it, that make you come across like a snide, little shit-stirrer, rather than a concerned Toyota owner.

So weird, I guess it was covid but truck forums were never like this shit storm. They used to be more like a community that helped the other participants. I guess my age is showing. Get the fuck off my lawn. Toyota is going above and beyond, these days that should be applauded.

All good info. I don't literally not like Alabama. Got an un Uncle from there. However, all signs seem to point to to this not being a design issue and a process issue. Was it just Alabama, I thinks so. However prepare to be proven wrong.

Exactly this, issue sucks but at least they are doing something about it.

GF has a newer Explorer that recently started throwing weird errors, quick Google search and apparently its pretty common with it. Ford hasnt owned up to it and shes currently waiting to see if her extended warranty will actually cover it, 60k miles and needs a new transmission because of a known issue with the valves in them. Car has never towed, never been off road or anything

I know my dealer its usually based off what they have for loaners on hand which is why I've held off on getting the other minor recalls taken care of. After repeated trips to the dealership for minor recalls initially and having a corolla or something as a rental, its just too much of a pain and that was only for a few days or weeks. I would expect this to take quite a bit longer given how long those minor fixes took. I actually called Toyota about getting a rental before this announcement and was told to contact the dealer as it was up to them, might just have to find a dealer with a Tacoma or something as a loaner.

One of few things GM used to do well for customer service. Your rental was consistent with the vehicle you bought. High dollar truck, Vette or Cadillac got you a high $ rental. Trucks were not always available but at least you got a Tahoe or Suburban or an Escalade.

Me fitting into a Corolla is comical.

Several years ago I had taken my old Tundra in for warranty work, the only "loaner" was a Prius. Option was that, or go down the street to Enterprise and they'd rent me something from there. It was only for two days, and it was a great two days picking my son up from school and embarrassing the crap out of him in that Prius.

Aside from that instance, I never had a problem getting at least a Tacoma from my dealer.

Yea a couple days isnt bad, week plus starts to become a pain. While I may not be hauling bigger things, simple stuff like my mountain bike or even tossing an animal in the bed of the truck if im hunting becomes a lot more difficult or impossible in a car or SUV without a hitch. At least the trucks usually have a hitch standard these days in most models.

If you take your dogs anywhere in the truck, you can't when they rent you a vehicle per the rental company's policy. I'm not sure about loaner vehicles though.

I take mine at least 3 times a week to a dog park.

Finally got a response. He does know there is a tundra back there that’s completely torn apart, but he doesn’t have any details on it. It’s not one of his customers. Still asked him to find the build date of it or any other details.

is that new 24 a spun bearing for sure? that's interesting its getting a long block, that maybe indicates they gave up on this short block BS

I didn’t ask exactly what went wrong with it, but the guy brought up the cleaning issue and how they are still losing them. I assume that meant it was another spun main.

Yeah, he mentioned long block a few times. However, who knows how accurate he was being. He isn’t one of the mechanics from the back so I was taking his word for it.

Also pretty odd both engine and transmission are bad. Maybe there was more to the story.

I hope it’s a fluke and not another main bearing. My advisor seems pretty decent. Hunts and fishes like me so we usually have some good chats. I am hoping he gets the build date for me and exact detail to what happened with it.

I’ve been following this from the beginning and completely disagree. Why’d they change part number for bearings in January if it’s not a design problem?
