Who’s using ProClip a-pillar mount on a 2.5 gen?

I’ve been a fan of ProClip mounts for years and need to replace mine with one using a different charging connector. Moved from lightning to USB-C.

Looks like they now offer a base for both the trim around the center vent, and an A-Pillar mount.

Anyone using the pillar mount and have an opinion on stability/slippage and usability for righties?

Any mount on an A-pillar is going to have some more leeway for motion to account for body roll of the truck. Pro clip even states that. Is there enough slippage that you find it less stable or usable?

also, I’m right handed. I’m wondering how annoyed I’ll be reaching for a device on the left pillar with my left hand.

Interesting, that must be a new offering cause I've never seen that pillar mount from them before.

It definitely doesn't look like it fits well and 1 of the 2 reviews states it moves and they weren't even driving. Also, if you upgrade to the driver side grab handle, looks like you would have the handle and the mount fighting for the same space.

It looks like it has potential but it seems below ProClips normal standards. I also agree with you that it would be annoying and/or awkward to have it on the left while being right hand dominant.

A lot of folks have the base that goes above the vent to the right of the steering wheel. Most like it, some have issues with some wiggle but I think the solution was a little more double sided tape.

I have one for my scan gauge 3. If you have the handle it sits below the handle. The handle seems to keep it from moving but I also drive highway/streets 99% of the time.

The problem with the design is the bottom of the pillar is wider than the middle so the mount clamp is going to naturally want to settle on the narrow part.
The Tundra manual has some no go zones for mounting, this one is safe as long as you keep it lower on the pillar.

I've seen a mount that uses a handle bolt but I think that places a mount in a no-go zone. There is also one that clamps into the bezel of the vent; will prevent turning the vent.

Do you think I could bother you to take a photo of your pillar with showing the handle, mount, and scan gauge?

I don’t have the handle but will at some point. I just keep putting it off but have always planned to get it.

Don't mind the cable, it is for a battery tender.

3" to 4" of space between the dash edge. If you have very large fingers and wear gloves there is still plenty of room between the gauge and wheel. I have a magnetic swivel mount in between the Proclip and the SG3 so it extends about 1" to 2" from the proclip surface.

I think you could slid the gauge up about an inch but my fingers kept hitting the SG.

I’m also a fan of the Pro Clip mounts. I have 2 in my Nissan 370z and just added one to my recent purchase of my Tundra. In my Z, I have one mounted on the A pillar and stability wise, it’s really good, as it’s more of a low riding car with air suspension, making it really bumpy at times. I went with the mount in the center of my tundra, just because I didn’t want my phone cable running across the dash/wheel.

I know this isn’t inside the Tundra, but it’s mounted/attached the same way. I was looking at the A pillar mounted one for the Tundra. It’s mounted securely and able to turn the phone sideways when using GPS.

yeah that’s roughly where the pro clip mount was in my 4th gen 4Runner. I loved that spot but they haven’t used it in the Tundra.

I abhor dangling cables. Whenever I put the mount, I’m getting a hard wired one and running the power behind the dash to avoid the dangling mess. Would be easier to do that from the A pillar so I was excited for that option. But weighing all the factors, I don’t think that’s the best spot to put it. So I’ll think through some clever system to get the power cord from a proclip hardwired charger above the vent and get it behind the dash.

Thanks for taking the time for the photos! I think I’ll be passing on the A pillar mount and will get their vent mount instead. With the handle plus a tall phone, that space will be crammed in a hurry. Not even sure my iPhone 15 Pro Max will fit there and not run up into the grab handle.

    I hear you. No problem.

ProClip sells extensions surfaces may not fix physical envelop limitations.

Before you buy the vent mount give me a few days to find my old one that went unused. From what I remember they are pretty pricey I can part with mine willingly at no cost.

Thanks! I’ll gladly wait a few days. They are pretty pricey.

Has anyone installed a proclip mount on the right side of the radio for the passenger? I can’t find anyone who did but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.

I just did mine on the left for the driver. Hard wired. Ran the cord through a tiny notch on the wood trim piece to get behind the dash and wired it to the hot wire behind the radio. Constant power.

Now that I’m happy with it, I’m buying another to mount on the right for the passenger/wifey to use. No reason at all it wouldn’t work.

Personally I think mounting anything like that on the pillar is a bad idea simply because part of the curtain airbag is under there. Mounting something on the dash or window in that area is likely not going to be as much of a problem, but putting anything directly on the pillar cover and over the airbag will become a projectile. The other airbags "might" keep it from shooting anywhere, but I wouldn't chance it myself.

I run a Proclip mount and a Scosche Magsafe compatible mount on the right side of the steering wheel. It's been there for 3 years and been flawless. I did not hardwire anything as I have an iPhone 14 and my wife has a 15 so we need to swap cables back and forth to use Carplay

Thanks, I guess I should have been more clear. This location is the intended location. When I referred to the right side, I meant the right side of the radio.

May not be much help, but I think the mount would also work on the right side of the radio as well.

Looking at mine, I think it would work in that spot just fine.
