I’m literally a park Ranger for the state of MA. No work from home option there.

Moving to another state puts me at the bottom of the pension ladder. I’ve got 14 left for full package

Call me crazy but I never stuck with a job for a pension. That won't bode well for me in later years but I've been stuffing money into other things to help me once I get to retirement. When I exited from the corps I kept telling myself all I had to do was another 14 and get that pension. I'm sure glad I left when I did though.

where you thinking about heading? We're waiting for our kids to get out of school so I have 5 years left here but I'm all but gone already. Thinking about grabbing some space now though and building on it over the next 5 years.

 

My dad (also MA) seems to be comfortable with his pension. I don’t know much about them but one thing I’ve learned is that you really need to understand how they work and all the different offerings/clauses. Just like any other retirement savings vehicle, if you approach it correctly it can be a beautiful thing..

 

My wife is a school teacher, so we both will have pensions. When we get close, we will be talking to a financial planner on the best options.
