I don't really see the difference but the 2Gb speed was only $10 more

You don't see the difference because your wire/equipment has a limit of about 1.2gb

Congrats. Most do not have Cat 6 or 7 that is needed. G Fiber is pushing 8gb here but most folks cannot use it and GFiber does not tell them. And, most folks are using wifi that cannot handle it either.

Why do some providers keep their subscribers in the dark about stuff like that? If I were an installer, I'd consider that part of the job.

Great question because folks sign up for the 8 gig and then will complain and get pissed off when they cannot get more than one gig. For customer relations at least they could provide an asterisk with a note stating you must have compatible Cat 6-7 wire.
I built a new PC and my mobo can do 10 gig but I did not realize that my Cat 5 wire (installed when I built the house 27 years ago) could not get it from the fiber router to the PC. My installer did inform me and because it is very difficult to rewire the entire house I dropped down to the 2 gig plan (after getting the extra wifi extender for signing up for 8 gig).

Are you only using wifi capabilities? Talk about serious speed loss.
