so I got the 38 gallon tank and it's eating fuel like a beast. Will it get better as the motor breaks in? What upgrades can I do to help?

you bought a 5300+ pound truck with a 5.7 liter engine and you are worried about fuel economy? the motor is ready to go when you bought it. what mileage are you getting now? if you are getting around 15mpg, then you are doing good. mods for better mpg.. yeah... lighter shoes and less weight on the skinny pedal. :)

lol @Lexaris1 it just gets worse don't expect it to get any better im at 12.5mpg I added a cai and it went up a few mpgs but then the cpu realized it and now its back to 12.5 I have had my truck for about 1 year and 1/2 I just reached 17,000 miles I think 12.5 is as good as it gets

Really depends on your driving mix of city and highway too. Unloaded in pure city with trips about 2-5 miles I get about 11 mpgs. The best highway was 17 mpgs and I was doing about 70 mph. Saying that, I knew what I was getting into when I bought it and the larger tank was something I really wanted. On road trips (not towing or hauling stuff) I get almost 500 miles between fill ups.

Stop and go city kills me. I just averaged 11ish on my last fill up all city/completely stock.

I took a 265 mile road trip and averaged 18mpgs.

Shouldn't have a problem getting 16-17 mpg stock.
    My 14 DC 4x2 I was getting 17.4
    My 17 CM 4x4 I'm getting 16.9
And for both that's with like going 80-85 on the highway.

3" lift and 35" tires . . . about 13-14 MPGs. Ignore your miles to empty and average MPG or it will drive you crazy. Just enjoy the ride.

16ish here, bone stock mixed highway and city. Drops quick in city. All be over soon when I can afford lift and tires... Then I'll just stop looking.

Reset your mpg meter when you are about to go down a huge downhilll. It won't make any long-term difference, but boy it does make me feel good to see some huge numbers. :D

15 mpg with trd dual exhaust and K&N intake. I have the green MPG bar on my display at all times and it helps a lot. Like @smslavin I'm like an old lady pushing the gas off the line. Heads on a swivel behind me every time trying to get in another lane to pass me :burnrubber:

If anyone is finding that the fuel mileage on their 3rd gen is too bad for them to handle, I'd be more than happy to take the truck off your hands. I'll even fly down and pick it up. :)

I'm still under 500 miles on my 2018, but I see between 11-15 mpg per trip depending on the distance and speed. I bet I'll get 11-12 mpg average with most of my driving, but hopefully 15+ on trips. I'm glad to have the 38 gal tank.

On the 2018 instrument cluster it tells you the mpg stats for every drive when you turn off the truck. I'm not sure if the previous instrument cluster did that, but it is definitely a reminder of how much fuel you are using.....ohhh well, didn't buy this truck for the fuel economy.
