Ok, I'm a dumbazz, messed up a home electrical DIY project. I want to add a receptacle for my kids' top bunk bed, just tapping into the receptacle below that. Imagine your typical 110v receptacle near the floor, power coming from straight below and continuing straight above into attic. I wanted to tap into that to add another receptacle higher up (so kid on top bunk has her own power supply). I was thinking there was more slack in the wire going up to the attic based on some initial tugging, so I cut into the wall, cut the wire, ran each piece (from below and above) into the new box (install looks clean af--one thing I am actually good at, ha!). When I went to tug some wire slack, there really wasn't any and the wire is stapled to the studs.

So imagine now I have basically two 1.5" pieces of unstripped wire inside the box to work with to wire up my new receptacle.

At first I was thinking I was going to have to run all new wire (breathing attic insulation in Texas summer to reach an exterior wall wire under an eave!) since there's no way I could get wire nuts on that, but when searching what other dumbazzes did in this situation, I heard about these Wago lever nuts. Mind blown. Ordered some. I had found one on the ground on a walk before and wondered what it was, now I know. These things could be life-changing for this DIY home electrician. Will report back unless I become a DIE home electrician.

Wagos are the devil. We never use them unless they're low amperage. So what I would've done, is pull the whole box outta the wall, cut in the new box, then fished a few feet of Romex up the wall. Existing wire is always stapled, and never has slack. You could still do something similar, and just feed a new piece down and put the old wires in the upper box. getting 3 Romexes in a cut-in box sucks, but it's doable.

Think I could fit 37's with 3" suspension, 1" body, SPC UCAs and Solo LCAs?
Found a hella deal on a set of 5, practically new, and about 20 mins away.

Don't worry, I am going to be extra safe and put a bottle of water in the wall above the new box in case there's a fire, it'll melt the bottle and put the fire out.

If you want to actually fit bigger tires, don't go for the Solo LCAs and spend that money first on paying someone to properly tub the cab. Think about Solos after that is done. At some point you're going to have to think about tubbing the rear wheel wells too, so they don't act as a brake, rather than limiting travel with bumpstops.

    Good insight.
I've got two guys I'd trust to do the tubbing, if I ever were to need it. But realistically I'll likely just go for skinny 35x10.5 or 35x11.5
Too bad those sizes never pop up on FBM.

One of em has 40's on his Tacoma with IFS still.

I genuinely would tub for 35s too. I will be making the jump to 35s and I can 1000% assure you they will not work on my truck without tubbing. Solo LCAs and a body lift might bring down the amount of contact, but not eliminate it.

I’m thinking that if a truck has a 1~2” body lift, there might be a chance the intake can be left in place, and only the rear coolant crossover pipe would need to be removed to squeeze out the starter. It’s just my theory though...

The only thing worse than those Wagos are push-in splices, which are just as bad as using the quick-inserts on the back of an outlet.

I'd have picked up a j-box with three knockouts, cut the in-wall run, mount the box inline with the run, clamp the Romex from the original run top and bottom, then make your splice in the j-box with an added leg out the side. Rin that to the opposite stud, mount your new or old work box on it, and feed in the added leg. I don't care how tight a line is stapled, I've always been able to eek out an inch to be able to twist off. It'll be tight, but it's doable.

    Always use a j-box if you're splicing.

I just wish Alpine would give the ilx 650/670 the same kinda love. Not only can I not get an OEM screen protector that kills smudges and fingerprints, I also can't get a knob. And even if I wanted to pair that with my 650, it won't work, per reviews I've read.

I mean, I guess I get it, right? The Halo series is trying to offer the stand-out full-auto experience an OEM head unit from a recently released car has, with the same looks. They're attempting to do OEM+. And the stand-out face gives a great mounting surface. But us dash-mount guys want it too!

$850 for 5 practically new 37's for 17" wheel and only the next town over.
It's really really good that I don't have the space for an extra set of tires right now.
I currently have a parts pile for two Tundras, plus a small pile of other people's parts.

You aren't wrong about needing a little more room. Once I get the lever-connector Wagos in the mail I'll see if I need/would rather use a bigger box--I have a bunch (GFIs, plugs, switches, faceplates, you name it) in the garage from a house remodel where we fired our electrical contractor and he just left all his crap there. If I were using wire nuts (not enough wire) I would definitely not have enough room. And even though I'm an expert at making things happen even where something is way, way too small and short (ahem), I can't do anything with this one.

Worst-case I do what Beau suggests above and just fish some more wire in....
