    Hello,

My 2014 suddenly started having a fast turn signal flash on the drivers side only. I do have Alpharex headlights but they have never been an issue for the years I’ve had them unlike stories I hear from cheap aftermarket LED bulbs.

My taillights are stock and I’ve never put new bulbs in them so I assumed it burnt out but both the tail bulb and the headlight signal flash, just twice as fast as normal.

Any ideas on other things I should check? I drove to work and it was fine and when I left for lunch it suddenly started doing this.

    Thanks

That's the first time I've heard of this. I would suspect the aftermarket lights but it will take someone more familiar with them to suggest troubleshooting tasks.

Probably a ground/resistor on the LED is gone bad, since it doesn't have the same resistance as a regular bulb causing it to freak out and think the bulb is out.

Thanks. Something internal on the Alpharex light was my fear as they obviously have some sort of circuitry inside to make them flash normal unlike drop in LED bulbs.

I will email the company and see if they are familiar with the a possible failure that can cause this.

Check the bulbs in your tail lights, a bad bulb back there can cause a repid flash

    Thanks for all the responses.

It’s been some time since I was into the headlights and forgot the Alpharex uses the OEM amber marker light as well. The harness plug has seen some heat over the years and torched the bulb. Replaced it and all is well.

I’m either going to pull them out and seal off the hole then tie the harnesses up after painting the bulbs with high temp paint. I will either do that or find some LED bulbs that will run cooler with internal resistors that prevent (hopefully) the quick flashing thats indicative of replacement with LED.

That's exactly what my front turn signals looked like in Phoenix a decade ago, lol..

That looks bad. Is that a dual filament bulb?

A cheap LED bulb with an internal resistor may end up just like your halogen bulb.

If you decide to go with external resistors and LED bulbs, VLED makes some nice ones.
They are big and will dissipate heat much better than a bulb with an internal resistor.

VRL3 will cover front and rear on each side VLR-3 RESISTOR WC STYLE (vleds.com)
VLR6 will cover just front or rear if you only want to do the front. VLR-6 RESISTOR WC STYLE (vleds.com)
Looks like the tap adapters are sold separately now. DUOTAP HARNESS WC STYLE CONNECTOR (vleds.com)

I mounted mine behind the tail light.

    Good luck..

Is the DLR using the brighter, higher current filament?

Have you looked at your driver's side turn signal bulbs carefully? Could be a filament that has severed but is still making contact, until it vibrates enough. I've had this happen a couple of times I the last couple of decades. Ohm meter will help

Yes, it just blinks for the turn signal.
The dim one comes on with the parking lights.

Ouch. Don't think the socket is designed for anything more than intermittent use of the higher wattage filament.

It is on all the time..
I've been using LED bulbs for years for the front turn signal and parking lights..

LED bulbs pull much less current. The picture posted above looks like an incandescent bulb.
