First of all this forum seriously rocks! I’ve been asking a lot of questions lately and received invaluable insight as I work to get into a 2nd gen truck. Thank you to all that have been so helpful!

I have located a 2021 SR5 out of state at a Toyota dealership. It has 30k miles and the CARFAX is spot on in terms of maintenance. The photos of the truck (exterior, interior, engine) are immaculate. It appears the previous owner took care of it atleast at face value. I put in a lot of effort to align a pre purchase inspection through a third party mechanic but have been unsuccessful. The salesguy is telling me Toyota’s 160 inspection is very thorough and the truck is backed by a gold certified warranty (12k or 1 year). Hard for me to turn it down because I’m unable to get PPI but it’s also tough for me to move forward on such a huge investment without due diligence. I have to fly out so it’s a big leap of faith as well. What would you do? Thoughts on Toyota’s 160 point inspection process?

Should come with an extended factory warranty also if it’s CPO.

I wouldn't be concerned with doing an inspection on a certified pre-owned Toyota. Toyota is pretty specific about what they will certify, so if they certify it the truck is good to go. You also get a 7 year 100k powertrain warranty. My 2021 has been fantastic and has been the only truck I've owned that did not need at least one or two minor warranty repairs.

It comes with comprehensive 12k or 1 year and powertrain 100k or 7 years. Gold certified.

Buy it and run with it. Very unlikely you'll even have to use the warranty

Not trying to sound like we’re going to buy it out from under you, but would you consider having a forum member at least look at it for you? Might save you from a wasted trip or being disappointed when you see it. If so, give a ballpark location and maybe someone will be willing to help.
Before I get flamed, yes I do realize this is the internet and it would be a gamble. But I also know that for the most part there are upstanding people on here

Mine didn’t hold for shit from the factory. When you drive big trucks / tow - you get in the habit of using it!

So maybe I went to a bad dealer, but back in December I was on the hunt for a nice 2nd Gen (ultimately did find one), and I was really disappointed in a CPO truck at Frank Lloyd Wright Toyota of Scottsdale Arizona. I looked at this 2020 Platinum 4wd Tundra and I found countless issues with it. It was literally dripping from a loose oil drain plug for god's sake. And as I'm finding these discrepancies, the salesman is telling me about how his master tech completed a 250-point inspection. They wanted $47k for this truck with 63k miles. Thankfully I had the luxury of being able to walk away and drive home and hadn't flown in to see this truck.

Moral of the story, get the 3rd party inspection, hell or high water.

Yea if your not sure what your looking at, takesomeone or pay a mechanic. A dealers inspection might be ok, but usually will just be writing on the paper. They don't pay their mechanics much to do it, and they don't want to fix, or repair anything that they don't have too.

    Whats the price?

Also DO NOT leave with the truck until all "promised" repairs are made. Many claims of dealerships saying take the truck and we'll fix the issue later once the tech is available/parts come in. And then they change their tune once you've driven away with it.

This. There’s plenty of solid people on this forum that are very particular on their trucks. Worth seeing if someone local would check it out for you. Better than nothing.

Yes if you leave without anything you want fixed fixed, your going to have to pay out of your own pocket. Dealers don't care after they make the sale! Never heard a salesman say let's hold off on signing any papers untill we get the truck fixed first. Never happens!

Toyota CPO is solid, unless it's a shit dealer. They typically don't certify vehicles that are gonna' come back to haunt them.

I bought my '19 as a CPO almost 2 years ago and no regerts.
