    What’s wrong with stock?
A few weeks ago I drove from Miami to Houston and noticed some hard shifts at 70 mph. Coming home this weekend it was more noticeable. What happens is when I am driving for a while at 70mph and go to pass someone it does a hard shift. The same happens at 80 mph. I understand that it may be downshifting, but the shifts are very noticeable. Is this normal? (I have a 22 SR5 TRD OR built in aug 2022. Current mileage 16,000.)

Mine is the same way. It’s pretty violent at times, but doesn’t happen every time.

I wouldn’t think super hard shifts are normal, but commanding downshift through a couple of gears with the throttle can create a “lively” shift. Try putting the truck in S mode but the highest gear available (I don’t remember if it will let you select 10th gear or limits you to 7th gear) and try to replicate the situation. You can also go in tow Tow/Haul mode and do the same thing; Tow Haul should make the shift more pronounced if empty.

Using S mode to downshift before attempting to pass works really well. I have experienced what you're referring to after getting a supercharger and would frequently get this situation from a likely 6th to 3rd gear passing situation (different gears for third gen of course).

Agree, stabbing the throttle can be tricky to get a smooth downshift with so many gears. Shifting over to “s mode” I guess it’s called, while off the throttle, makes a pretty good downshift for passing. Also you can always downshift for more power, and then shift back to the right once desired speed is achieved to let it lock back up in OD.
