The "Cracked Seat Panel" MEGA Thread

Any pics of the stress lines ? 10 months and over 7k miles and don't notice anything, which surprises me as a 240lb goon.

So no drain and fill ? Best to get new fluids every 60-75 k for long life.

Toyota won’t crack the seal on the transmission now that it has over 200k original fluid…. They said don’t fix what ain’t broke.. the transmission is tight and strong and smooth… I’ve heard some say they have 350-400k on original transmission without service so I’m just riding it out. I only put 5000 mile a year on it so I guess it’ll outlive me…

 

No images of the stress line and I'm kicking myself for not taking them earlier . But what @curtisclaire posted just above is almost exactly what mine looks like now.

It started as what looks like just a scratch about an inch long but after time it got longer. Then this weekend I hopped out and heard a pop or snap and that's when the full blown fracture showed.

 

Yup yup. I ordered my 2nd one 2 weeks ago and waiting on the call back. The 1st one just had a slight crack when replaced. The new one looks like the above.

 

Wow, just sucks so many are cracking, seems like it's inevitable. Maybe having and using side steps stops or a least slows it down ??!

 

Side steps probably delayed the inevitable. I have no doubt it's the way I'm exiting the truck. But damn it shouldn't be that easy to break.

 

That crack is much different than any of my four cracked ones. I wonder if in their attempt to correct the problem they have opened up a different can of worms.

I would suggest that Toyota in the future would test their seats with people other than 100 pound geisha girls. I weigh 185 pounds and don't feel that I deserved this problem.

 

All I keep thinking about when I see this is how excited Mike Sweers said he was to look at how the seats held up on the million mile Tundra. So many people said they’d use the million mile tundra tear down to cut corners. Looks like Mike proved them right, at least with the seats he was so excited about.

 

Sorry if this has been asked already (I’m sure it has), what’s the part number? I found one but it keeps saying “won’t fit 22 Tundra”.

 

Theres like 4 or 5 different part numbers depending on trim and options

 

Toyota replaced it with an upgraded design they came out with, much thicker and with ribs on the backside maybe… there was no reference to part number, I was going to go to dealer and see if the new Tundras on the lot still had the old original thin seat…. So far the replacement seems very capable and strong. Toyota isn’t calling it a “defective” issue but their is an internal bulletin in the dealership addressing this issue so they are apt to replace for free…

I just got notified my replacement panel is at the dealership. Hopefully its better. The original only snapped a peg off inside, no outside damage, just a loose panel

 

After having my first panel Crack, it was replace with the "new" panel. . And now it's just starting to crack.

 

I can fix this

Just kidding but it is sad where Toyota went cheap on some of the parts.

 

Tried searching this thread but didn't find anything. Has anyone tried repairing the panel? Assuming you're out of warranty. Saw some interesting plastic repair methods on YT

 

I've about decided if mine has to be replaced a 3rd time, I'm getting one and see if I can reinforce the backside with fiberglass, aluminum, something

 

Mine cracked today. 11 months old.

 

Saw mine was cracked today. 13 months old.

 

I bought my 2023 SR5 in November of 2022. I don't recall exactly when the plastic part failed, but it was replaced under warranty in July 2023. I noticed yesterday that it had filed again. I will visit the dealer next week. I cannot completely recall, but I seem to remember that I was told Toyota would only replace it once? Anybody have experience with this? Also, do we know if the part and part number have changed? Or I they putting the same junk in the 2024's and 2025's? Thanks.

 

Just had my 3rd replacement. The newer ones are more robust, but still failing.

 

Getting ready to bring mine in for 20K service. Seat panel started showing stress lines. This is the 2nd one.

 

Yup, that's my premonition with the engines as well.

 

@Meso @AJT_23 .. assuming this is the two infamous engineers that bring the Toyota community quality items for our Tundras. I would love to see their solution (if they looked into it) and would bet they could design and figure out a panel that would last like the 2nd gens and not keep cracking/breaking.

Mine has not seen this issue yet but there is no doubt it's happening and seems inevitable with time and miles. I've noticed a pattern of around a year (some sooner) and I'm around 10 month mark so keeping an eye out for stress lines.

 

I’m starting to wonder what it would look like with the decorative plastic piece removed entirely. At this point a metal plate with a rolled or hemmed top edge will probably work better.

 

My dealer ordered the part , and scheduled installation very promptly for me. Installation was this morning. I left the dealer and drove 1.5 miles to home cheapo. When I got out of the truck, I heard it stress. Hopefully it lasts a little while before it completely fails again. I documented it with the dealer. I am pushing 300 pounds, so I know that is a contributing factor. It is also a faulty design and/or part.
