Haha. I was about to edit my misspelling before anyone caught that but then my phone died and I had to finish my beer before I could get to a charger in my bedroom. Guess I'm the butt of your jokes once again. Probably won't be the last time. I better go make myself some tea and grab a biscuit.

Well, as posted elsewhere, after a sad tow experience into a headwind with the Tacoma I am heavily contemplating getting back into a V8 Tundra again. To that end I have been using the interwebs to hunt around for the right used Tundra. I've found one that looks pretty good for the price, but it's too far away for me to go inspect it. If it were just a couple hours away I'd be on it, but it's in Texas. Specifically Georgetown.

Are any of our Mafia crew locals to the area and maybe willing to waste some of their time to go give the truck an inspection on my behalf? Pics on the internet can only tell me so much.

Of course this is purely a voluntary request appealing to the kindness of "strangers on the internet" as I may not even wind up switching trucks. I know it's a big ask, and there is zero pressure or expectation for assistance.

But seriously, I wish you good luck in your search. I told the wife I have no idea what I’d replace my truck with if something happened. Actually saw a newer Tundra stopped on the side of the highway as we were towing our SxS up north yesterday and reaffirmed I won’t be going that route until Toyota builds a new motor for them.

Yeah, it was an emotional kneejerk to get rid of the Tundra. It was a reminder of failed goals and rather than sucking it up I ditched it. Live and learn. I do love the Tacoma, but I have to be able to tow my utility trailer more than just locally.

Give the Taco more power? Can you add a turbo or do anything else to give it the power you need without having to sell? No matter what you do, its going to cost you money most likely.

Not wanting to do that to it. It's not just the power, but the stability. Also, with the KBB cash offer I received I think I could get close to a straight swap for a Tundra if a dealership isn't being shady and hiding thousands of dollars in fees.

oxymoron isn’t it? I have only worked with one dealership in my entire life that did not want to play that ‘game’ of hours of upfront shit. That was Smart Toyota of Quad Cities in Davenport, Iowa.

My wife picked out what she wanted, sent emails to “every” Toyota dealership in Arizona and that was a joke. This was in 2021. She was actually thinking about buying at the inflated prices but I told her to send out feelers to other dealerships in other states. One day about 2 weeks later coming home from a New Mexico 4 wheeling trip and the phone rings. The guy introduced himself, repeated all of the options she wanted including color and told her the OTD price and it was normal pricing I was expecting. We asked how they can do that while everyone else expects to get rich. He said “Exactly, we are having problems keeping inventory and other dealers are overstocked due to the greed.” My wife had a plane ticket and hotel booked before we were home.

I flew out, he picked me up at the airport and I was at the dealership less than 45 minutes and I was off to eat dinner. It took 2 days of driving to get home in Arizona

    Crap… I know. TL:DR

I'm not opposed to driving to buy new. I did it for the Taco. On a used truck I don't trust dealerships enough to not have it checked out first. They have an active motive to hide anything that might bring the price down or nuke the sale. That's why I'm reaching out here, the hope is that we have somebody local who doesn't have that motivation and could be trusted to tell the truth about the condition of the truck.

If it were in the DFW area I would actually reach out to the dealership I bought my Taco from to try and work a deal through them for the truck if they could acquire it and keep the price low. Stand up shop run by a pretty cool guy that @RobertD and @Squatting Pigeon put me in touch with.

If something happened to my 2014 I'd be looking for a low mileage 2019-2021.
No way I'm buying a Gen 3 with the current state of things.
If I bought new, it would probably be a GMC AT4 but I'm sure they have their own issues as well.

I didn't mind my rental/loaner 2021 Tacoma Toyota gave me to drive for 8 months while they waited for my cat replacement parts to come in.
It was a little small inside and the lawnmower engine under the hood was a bit lacking.
My wife would make fun of the engine noise and lack of power.
When I sped up on the highway she would say 'go, squirrels, go"..:thumbsup:

I hope my 2014 lasts another 10 years.
I can't afford the new truck prices of any brand being this close to retiring..

I know you haven't had issues with your Gen 3 but I have little faith in them.
The new Platinum loaner I drove for a week was nice, but it had several rattles in it.
    I can't stand rattles..

    Isn’t “trans logic” an oxymoron?

I mean, do transmissions actually use logic?

My '02 is a 'few away from 118000 on the clock...AND we just had a FAMILY discussion on Dad's Truck ;):mad:o_O

Momma and my son thought since it was "sitting" it MIGHT be better off in his yard...:bored:

I quietly ( yeah , right, M-80 makes less noise :p ) stated that only replacement would be the 2020 Peterbilt 389 I've been drooling over for 4-5

    weeks.....Needless to say...reno'd potting bench with Tundra.jpg

My Tundra is still quite capable of "Stealing the spot light" during picture taking opp's...

Reno'd the potting bench once again BUT like the Tundra , not going anywhere :anonymous:... that hunk of wood withstood Ian's F@C&ING wrath & is one

of the only things reminding me of my Fort Myers Home ....

Yeah, if I didn't have a trade I'd fly out to check it, and then buy if it was worth it. Fly back if it wasn't. With the trade in the mix I have to drive, and if it doesn't pan out then I've added a couple thousand miles to the trade vehicle and wasted a lot of time.

I have a friend who has lots of friends in TX, oddly enough, and he's going to see if any are close and willing to check it out. If it's in good shape mechanically and framewise, I will engage the dealership and try to work the deal. If the math adds up, I could be in a Tundra in the next couple weeks.

Price is the barrier. If I could get one that wasn't a stripped down 2wd for the price of the Tundra I would be sorely tempted.... and then I'd go read up on ford transmission implosions, electrical problems, and all the other stuff that gets tossed about on them..... Still, if it were in budget I'd probably go for an F250 with the Godzilla. They just lock stuff like LED headlights and BSM into trims/packages that make it outside my budget.
