I read somewhere the industry average is just under .5 % (500 failures in 100k units) in warranty failures for engines. Japanese were generally lower at .2-.3% and other brands higher at .5-.7%.

It is a fallacy that any mass produced engine family has never had a failure. Not humanly possible. Likely engines reversed for reliability had a couple hundred failures per 100k produced year after year

For comparison the only mass failure vehicle I ever had was the infamous Honda 5 speed automatic. I don't know the stats but I am guessing the in warranty failures rate for those tranny's were >50%. I knew people that had 2 to 3 replacements and the entire length of my dealers building was lined with transmission dollies for years.

The morale is 1% failure is higher than average but far from catastrophic. It may rise over time but in automotive history this is far from the worst defect in history

My 22 had all of these plus trim breaking on the exterior, faulty HVAC, throttle lag, and broken radio knob. Saw the writing on the wall and got out of it last fall before the engine grenaded. Total POS>

Was that you or did you get hacked?

Can’t wait to see what hackers do to self driving systems.

Better yet for subscription options. Pay the hacker or go through the winter with no heated steering wheel. Lol

I have peered into my crystal ball and I have seen that the 3rd gen’ers will be extremely happy with Toyota and the remedy for the fix and the second gener’s doomsayers can take solace in the fact that Toyota is still the best in the business at taking care of their customers and engineering a fix to an issue.

I want to believe your crystal ball.

The lack of a fixed fire recall on my current truck gives me pause. That recall is child's play in comparison to 250k+ new engines that must be replaced. (that's my minimum standard)

It's not that at all with me. I have a GM vehicle too and I love it. I think it is more a matter of how well a local dealer stands behind the product. I seem to have had good luck, and I hope it stays that way. Peace!

It wasn’t the former, likely the later. The best engineering in the world won’t save you when the production model is slapped together by the UAW.

I think the frustration comes from that 90% that are uncertain if they have a ticking time bomb under the hood. These catastrophic failures happen without warning in both low and high mileage vehicles and could easily exceed market value of the truck at higher mileage to repair if out of warranty. That’s very different than something like cam phasers on an F150. This problem would tend to only show up higher mileage and would not cost $30,000 to repair.

My neighbor works on these weapons. They are not being hacked. They are being jammed Via GPS jamming. The Russians are not hacking our weapons.

Your quote about the Secretary of State talking to a voting machine gender is very telling.
All the vote hacking conspiracy theorists fail to investigate the very unique manner in how national elections actually take place in the USA vs. almost every other country. They completely ignore the fact that there are literally thousands of counties all with their own unique procedures, mechanisms, and technology and how they conduct elections that are constantly changing every day. Nothing is impossible, but the logistics of being able to influence even a few hundred necessary to swing an election is monumental undertaking. Each and every single one would need its own approach, customize to that county. Election fraud definitely takes place in small localized instances, but nationally across hundreds of counties in the same election night would be extremely difficult undertaking.

no, no we don’t like them for very specific reasons. I just talked to my buddy in Bible study about the dumpster fire that is his new $85K Tahoe high country. It literally left the factory with half the motor mounts not installed/torqued down. Vibration was horrible. That’s the kind of quality coming out of the Arlington TX UAW plant. And yes He is getting it fixed under warranty, but is very frustrated that it could be driven off the end of the factory line In that condition and deemed ready for sale.

Wish I could say….but let me ask this, what would be the best case scenario for ALL those who own a third gen outside of buyback for full paid price? Toyota is going to make this right and their reputation will remain as the most loyal to their customers

I think full engine replacements would be the minimum standard with full admission that the hybrids are also impacted.

My ideal world would be buy backs with some level of depreciation for use would also be okay for those of us who don't want to tolerate the amount of time we have to wait for an engine replacement.

That is the issue with engine replacements. We're still waiting on fuel line replacements we were promised last fall....and we know fixing 250k+ engines is not going to be fast...all while we have engines that are at risk of spontaneous failure.

Are you calling me a "silly sensationalist"?

My vehicles are never mistreated and always OVERLY maintained. I bleed red, white and blue and often go out of my way/pay more for domestically made items. I've owned GM/Chevrolet/Ford for most of my life. I've got close relatives that OWN these dealerships.

Please don't assume you know who I am or what I stand for.

Do you live stateside or in Qatar? You keep referring to what happens over there. Just asking because I wonder if your statement about Tundra quality is firsthand or a regurgitation of someone else’s opinion. Also curious if you think that all failures on products you like are because people mistreat their vehicles but if you don’t like the product then it’s just unreliable garbage.

Of course. Machines are machines, and nearly all of them these days are designed quite well. How they are used and maintained makes all the difference, especially over the long run, in my opinion.

Seriously? The number of Tundra's in Japan is low too. Near zero. Your point is silly, just sayin.

This post is kinda ironic really. Now you are the one making excuses for poor quality. Kinda sounds like what you accused others here of doing? On a forum for the vehicle they drive. “Hey kettle, I’m pot”

When you say you go to a university in Qatar, are you a student? Lecturer? Sanitation engineer?

Your entire disdain for Toyota is based on ONE experience with a Toyota and not even the vehicle in question?!! Maybe that LC was assembled on a Friday?
