For those who shut off the fake engine noise...

I got my Carista obd2 in yesterday and was able to shut the fake engine noise off today. Man what a difference it makes. I didn’t think it would be super noticeable but very happy to have a somewhat quiet cab now. Anyone on the fence about doing it, definitely do it and you will be happy.

I know I'm late to the game, and this is the 3rd gen discussion, but does a '21 SR5 have this "engine sound enhancement (ESE)" noise and if so, how is it disabled?
    Thanks

I personally like the augmented noise. I drove a Tundra without it and didn’t like the sound at all.

I look at it this way. Ever been to an indoor go kart track where they had all electric karts? The ones that have a speaker equipped to them making noises make it much more fun than no sound.

You have a V8. No need for sound enhancement.

I turned it off this morning with Techstream. Ended up turning it back on. I like the noise, I guess.

So, I have a 2024 Limited IForce Max Hybrid. In Carista, I don't have the option to turn off the engine noise, so I assume that means the hybrids don't have it.

    100% this.

Simple way to check if you have the faux-v8 is to turn on the truck with you in it, door closed. Open the door and if you can hear the sound change, you have it. Close the door and the fake rumble comes back. Its pretty obvious

Thanks guys! That is why I don't have it. I don't have the JBL stereo.

Finally shut the fake noise off. I didn't really mind it while it was on, but now that it's off I like it even better. Makes the truck even more quiet! :)

Also in the camp of: Turned it off and don't ever want it back.
I didn't totally hate it, but there were times it got old.
Now that it's been gone a few thousand miles, I'm definitely enjoying the quieter experience.

On a related note if it hasn't been mentioned:
Another 3-letter Toyota acronym for you and an actual GOOD implementation of the technology for once.
If you have JBL and ESE, (Engine Sound Enhancement) you also have ANC, Active Noise Cancellation. This one you want to leave "ON" as it supposedly lessens interior noise electronically.
I say supposedly as I haven't compared back to back with it ON and OFF with my own ears. I just left it on and like to believe the Toyo sound engineers got this one right.

Noticed that you can turn it on and off separately from the fake noise. Was going to play with it but didn't get to it... Yet.

I took some time to compare the ANC over a couple days. I can definitely tell a difference - less road noise and less wind noise.

I was curious if they did the fake engine noise like other hybrids. This explains all of my test drives sounded so different from each other.

If I not mistaken, it only has fake engine noise and ANC with the JBL sound system. Someone please correct me if I am wrong...

And has nothing to do with Hybrids. Trying to appease the loss of the V8 rumble.

My comments weren't directed to the Tundra Hybrid. Only that most hybrids or EV's use a fake engine sound to both alert pedestrians and keep the users whom are used to hearing motor noise satisfied. I test drove a SR5 (no JBL) a Limited (JBL) and a I-Force Max Limited (JBL) all three had slightly different sounds, which I thought odd due to them using the same base engine. The simulated/ amplified sound explains this.

Once you shut it off it stays off. No need to pay monthly unless you always want to change stuff. Just pay once and done. Just cancel the subscription to Carista when done.

The enhanced engine sound is pretty cool and fun to drive with. That being said I turned mine off at my 5k mile service. Since I'm currently commuting with this truck (30mi one way) it's a little annoying. Now its pretty quiet and I don't regret it. I do think the dealer turned off the Active noise cancelling with it though so that's frustrating. When I get my commuter back, I'm considering putting it back on as my truck is typically my weekend driver and it's a fun sound. I'm going to order the Carista since its cheap enough anyway and mess w/ it for a bit.

I also read that any changes you make with carista, even if you unsubscribe, stay that way. So you could turn it off, unsubscribe, then it'll stay that way. Re-up when you want to change any other settings. You also get 1 month free so that's not a bad deal.

I turned mine off as I don't want fake engine sounds and it's much better in my opinion. For this truck quieter is better for me.

For reference my last car was a 2014 SS with a cammed supercharged LS3, now that was a nice engine sound.

It's been established the sounds are enhanced, not fake. I thought the sound was fake also, until learned otherwise.

Enhanced. Like silicone bolt ons? Might appear to be "better", but definitely does not feel the same. Same concept. :D

I’m probably gonna catch some grief…what is the fake noise? Is it something only the hybrid has?
