I have the SW LTHs as well. Everything from the catback is the same so whatever fits a stock system will fit the headers.

 

I’m having a hard time on passenger side any tips

 

The passenger side can be a pain. Try different approach angles that allow the front of the header to maneuver by the shock tower and the manifold studs in front. It can be done. After the 10-20th try it'll slip right in but you won't know how. Some have unbolted the block and jacked it up. I never had to do that. Haha

you have to buy a programmer and delete the codes manually. Unfortunately once you add headers on this truck those codes will never go away. I had to delete both banks to get the lights to go away.

the headers flow a shit ton of air and it’s basically impossible to not throw codes with the ecu. Full delete everything and run a custom tune is the real only way to run headers on a tundra with out a check light.

What you mean by "delete both banks"?

 

Chuck in some anti foulers or j pipe for the secondaries.

 

so when i finished the headers on the truck it pulled 4 on both bank 1 02 sensors. All of them were CEL codes, even after we deleted one side (this was after a 300 mile drive) it pulled another 3 more codes right after. So it was about 6 codes total on my 2021.

 

For cases where the secondary O2s cannot be removed and/or tuned out I've see defoulers/extenders, O2 emulators/simulators, and mini cats recommended and used here with varying success. Results seem very inconsistent. Some states where emission requirements are more stringent and require a visual inspection these methods fail.

 

my trucks 100% tuned out , no lights. Running full headers , high flow cats and flowmaster outlaw cat back. Texas only has state inspections so I can technically remove the cats completely if I wanted to.

 

Question is, do you think the truck would pass smog with a deleted emissions and cats still on. I think the truck would still pass but idk.

 

That might work for some cases but some tuners won't tune out delete O2s nor will the vehicle pass inspections. Situation might be different now post the overturning of Chevron Deference. Experience of the installing/tuning shop will play a role too.

Not arguing about your solution just trying to disambiguate what is being discussed for clarity. Also pointing out in most states this isn't an option especially where the requirement is to run a scan for codes/emissions. Not touching the Federal statutes concerning emissions; main concern requires emissions devices to stay in the same stock location which is impossible to do with LTHs also cannot delete any devices. Probably easier to not mess with headers in these prohibitive examples.

It is worth noting the LTHs come in two configurations from SW; completely nakes/catless or with high flow EPA certified single stage cats (I think they are the GESi branded cats rated for 850HP). A less common option is to retain the stock OEM cats (to my knowledge the front cats are two stage cats) and weld them into the headers. No matter the configuration you will delete the rear cats but I am sure someone is running LTHs with two pairs of front and rear cats.

In terms of performance there seems to be little performance gained going from OEM to high flow GESi; bigger gains going completely catless with the gains being on the top end. High flow cats are pretty stinky but can pass inspection in some cases.

Yes it is possible but it depends on the state's emissions requirements. This is the main reason for me asking for clarification on what you meant by delete all. I think the best solution will be a case by case basis based on state requirements. In some cases don't get LTHs will be the best answer.

My truck passed VA emissions in one of the more stringent emissions counties with the following configuration SW LTHs, GESi Cats, Front O2s (in the post collector location). My rear O2s are deleted physically and electronically (tuned out). I think the saving grace in my situation is that the cats have EPA serials and the front O2 were functional without defoulers/extenders. I wasn't throwing any emissions either.

 

Technically, its illegal to remove cats anywhere in the US. Its just harder to get caught when you don't have emissions inspections.

Most of Utah does not have emissions and i know people have been fined for deleting their diesel trucks.

 

Which is why I didn't want to address Federal statutes/regs. Even moving them from the stock location is illegal (delays how long the cats take to light off)

 

In WA we used to have obd system readiness. No visual but when I needed emissions testing I used URD Sims but I don't think they offer them anymore.

 

yeah I haven’t welded those cats in since everything is tuned out I was deciding on taking the cats out and just running full exhaust out the back.

 

I chose the one that came with the aftermarket cats, at that time there was tune available yet for 20+ and I couldn't get rid of the CEL, I tried every fouler possible, no dice.

Keith had proven the factory cats barely rob any hp, and can be mate to 3" pipes, call me a tree hugger or whatever, but I'm not keen to have vehicles that stink, so had all 4 cats fabbed into the mid pipes.





3+ years and still happy with it and no codes.

 

I am just running two cats and to be honest I don’t want em on the truck at all. I wanted to see the difference in no cats just cat back.

 

I like this solution the best.

 

Get the scan gauge 2, I have the same exhaust set up, you would have to weld the bungs to the primary tubes on both sides of the headers to get rid of the cell, (american racing and JBA have them installed), as it’s not hot enough for the computer it’s about a 200 degree difference from the front o2’s to the rear. The scan gauge you can clear the cel and just keep driving Highway miles it’ll get hot enough to clear the codes which then you can run the scan and see no codes are being thrown
