We bought a new Grand Highlander Platinum AWD (non hybrid) for my wife last September. Unfortunately, she passed away very unexpectedly in May. We were able to pay cash for it so no expenses other than insurance & personal property taxes in Missouri. I don’t really need another car besides my Tundra but I don’t want to give it away either. The dealer we bought it from wants to buy it back as they literally can’t keep Grand Highlander’s on their lot. It stickered for$56k & some change, they offered me $46500 sight unseen. Just for grins, I went on CarMax & got an offer for $47000. Just looking for opinions, I know I won’t get what we paid for it but I want a fair price for it to. IMG_1426.jpg

Give me the VIN has always beat CarMax for me. Super easy to work with. Always had me a check at drop off and never had problems with he funds.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I know you are probably looking for quick and painless, but a private sale on an in demand model will likely go quick and yield $3-5k more than trade/dealer purchase from you will. That being said, for only $500 difference I would present the best offer you got to the dealer and see if they will match. Or just sell it back to them and eat the $500 depending on where your heads at. Keeps the deal local and continues that local dealer relationship.

Sorry to hear about your loss. You can put the info into Carvana and they will give you a 7 day offer. It's really easy. They do vary by market area. I'm in Fl. When I sold my 2103, the dealer offered 12K. Carvana gave me just under 18K. Good luck.

    Sorry about your wife.
Everyone I've talked to raves about how effortlessly the transactions went.

I'll be selling mine this way very soon. Carvana has upped their offer by 5K on the 3rd go round.
I'm fixing to check with give me the vin next week.

Have used both Carvana and Vroom. Vroom is now defunct apparently.

Transactions were smooth and very easy. Final pickup inspection was done by sub contractor doing the pickup/hauling and very lenient. Payment arrived in a timely fashion.

Offer prices from both fluctuated wildly over time and trended downward rapidly the longer the car was in their system.

    Sorry about your loss.

I have sold two cars to Carvana, dropping them off at their Cleveland location both times. It has been very painless, perhaps a half hour total from appointment start to end, finishing with a paper check being handed to me to deposit.

I’ve sold a couple to Carmax. Real easy. They inspect it, give you a number, you sign, and then just closing paperwork like a normal car deal.

Since the difference ain't that huge, take the CarMax offer and ask the dealer if they would match or beat.
Some have said it, your best bang for your buck would be private sales, but if you want out fast and mostly painless, I would ask if dealer would entertain the higher offer.
I sold a 2017 Pilot, dealer used car department manager offered me a number, and when I told him what CarMax give me (with proof, of course, difference was like $700-ish?) he beat the price by another $50 or something, rounding it to a whole number, which was the number I hope to get in the first place. So as long as the difference is not in the thousands, dealers should have room to accommodate, and Grand Highlander that's basically new? They can take it, CPO, and sell it for more than what you paid for, easy and will be gone before the week's end.

Thanks for the advice everyone. The dealer matched the CarMax offer so I took it. Just made a difficult time a little easier.

I see you resolved the issue but I'll still chime in for others that may be in this situation. In 2021, I sold my 2015 Honda CRV to Give Me The VIN. The process was super easy. I gave them the details of my car and attached a few pics. They responded saying they needed a couple more pics. They're specific on what pics they need. I sent the required pics and they gave me an offer. This was at the height of covid where used care prices were high, so I did pretty good. The thing that made me nervous, was they wanted me to send them the title. However, a year prior, my dad sold a Jeep to them with the same process and had no issues. So I did the same with no issues also. A few days later, a car transporter showed up, looked the vehicle over, made a phone call, handed me a check, loaded up my car, and left.
