I’ve met people on this forum that have become close friends - from the PNW to Texas to South Florida - we’ve traveled across the country to see each other and hang out with each others families so if you can’t find camaraderie here look in the mirror.

I’ve been on the forum since I started shopping for a truck in 2019. I don’t think I have ever seen so many people wishing they could check others’ papers at the door and deny entry to non-owners as I’ve recently seen in the 3rd gen subforum.

It’s a discussion forum, not an ownership forum. And this unprecedented recall is huge news whether you own a 3rd gen or not. I hate it for the people who have experienced engine failure. It also kinda makes me not recognize the Toyota that I have come to know and love. We will see!

    Lots of stuff!
Previous generation owners provide some insight into what is going on and possibly how things will work out for us who are new to Tundra and in my case back to Toyota after decades of blissful driving of German and Japanese makes.

Owning a Gen 3 is an interesting experience for me, I am still onboard and have been making this truck my own since I got it.

I say bring on all the others who are members of this forum and let them share in the experience. Someday we might all be Gen 4 or 5 owners reflecting on how good the Gen 3 engine was :)

This has the potential to be equivalent or worse then the frame recall and if worse could be the end of the Tundra as it's a North American product only so the R&D vs units sold may very well make the 3rd gen the last.

that’s fine, I’m going to bow out of this now anyways, don’t want to make anything worse or end up in a pissing match.

I think you’ve seen enough of my posts to realize I’m not denying shit , I’m not sensitive about shit , just that there is a bunch of us that have good tundras that are not even recalled or have any problems at all, we are here. So when people make these over generalizations about not understanding why anyone would buy one , etc , I was actually just saying there are
Reasons and there are in fact , good trucks.

have a good vacation and travel safe, I mean that !!

im out of here now, I wish everyone good luck with their rigs , gen 1, gen 2, and gen3

I bought a 2024 Tundra this week. If people think that’s completely idiotic, I understand their position, but also don’t really care - unless they plan on paying for what sits in my driveway

Not only do I have a problem with what sits in your driveway, I have a problem with what you plan to do with it and enjoy your life as you see fit. I know what is good for you better than you do, obviously. So there. :D

(Welcome to the club. I plan on doing the first oil change on my week old 24 Tundra today or tomorrow.)

Toyo did the engineering to move to global platforms. So the Tundra is a unique body on a standard platform and powertrain. Between Tundra, Taco and various SUVs the cost of the engineering is spread across all vehicle using it. Cease production on the Tundra and you got to spread remaining dev costs just over Tacos and SUVs. The price of them will rise. Any vehicle left using 3.4L or 10 speed auto will rise as well since their share of dev costs rises as well

Tundra is not going anywhere because the overall financial impact would be worse than one time $2B hit for new engines

the only sharing is the engine and parts of the frame the real LandCruiser is a true global platform thats shared with the Lexus LX here in the states, willing to place a small wager that for every Tundra sold they prob sell 20 Tacoma/Hilux and 10 LC's so while there is some parts sharing dont think its enough to wipeout all of the red thats about to hit Toyota North America.

    Vehicles using the TNGA-F platform:

    Vehicles using platform (calendar years):

That is a lot of units sharing costs.

TNGA-F platform in the context of the above is primarily the frame, the power plant and transmission is radically different and can be divided into two units the medium sized platform (4Runner, Taco, Baby LC) and the large platform (tundra NA only, Sequoia NA only, and full size LC world market.

also TNGA-F seems to fit ToyotaNotGivingA-Fart about future market share, the Toyota we are seeing today is not the toyota we had since the 80's recalls are now hitting categories that mature engineering should have caught, fuel lines, fuel sending units etc the engine issue is more than likely a design flaw and is forgivable on its own, however Toyotas handling of it and the fuel issue recalls prior make it a much bigger issue. I have a 2023 Tunda, and a 2021 Rav4 Prime and I can tell you on both quality is a joke, Wifes Rav4 has 55K on it and the seats look like there 10 years old at year three.

All the same frame family. TNGA-F was designed to support a range of length and width vehicles. That is why a universal platform is developed. Split costs across virtually all your trucks and SUVs is infinity cheaper that a clean paper design per vehicle .

Why do you think Toyota ran for 15 years with ancient trucks and SUVs and then release all new versions in a short period? They were engineering the universal platform to cut costs to maximize profits. Now they are positioned to reap the benefits. $2B on an engine (not platform) quality issue is a bump in the road they have been on more than a decade. They are not going to dump a big chunk of the product volume to recoup the design costs for engine, tranny or platform. Makers are far more likely to dump one off platforms and engines like Nissan did with the Titan

Ding ding ding the Tundra self milling /welding block and bad press may very well kill the Tundra Im not saying its going to sink the entire company.... To be quite honest if Toyota would buy my tundra back I would get a 3.0 baby duramax or the Titan as at this point Toyota is more focused on stock price then long term growth / reputation..... or I could drink the coolaid and get a gen 2 or 2.5 at least on the 2 or 2.5 the doublecab the back seats are actually usable.

This is the 3rd Gen Tundra section.

You do you - just trying to get a sense of your objective. You’re way off the mark about Toyota not making quality vehicles - all reliability and durability data makes that pretty clear.

Agree. We actually let a Patrol owner in our LC Club. Lol! He had several, and at one point was considering buying a diesel Patrol off him. The issue was all his were RHD, and it was becoming a PITA to get insurance. I forget the specific model, but for sure that model/year had stronger axles than the 80 Series LC. Still, aside from brand loyality, they (LCs’) are typically the most reliable 4x4. I’m a huge fan of 4WD 24-7 on YT.
