I got 14 in my non hybrid on 35s and that was staying out of hard acceleration and freeway cruising in eco mode.

I did a 1200 mile road trip recently and best I got was 18.5 mpg with 34” tires on my truck. Otherwise it is stock. 18.5 was on highways with a speed limit of 65 mpg. Once I hit highways over 70 it dropped down to 17. Got into the mountains and it went down to 16.5. Supposedly the mpgs will improve after around 10k miles from what I read. So we shall see. It’s a heavy truck so I really didn’t factory in gas mileage when buying.

Are you calculating your mileage taking into consideration the larger diameter tires affect on mph and distance travelled?

From the way you type I'm thinking you got 16mpg but just couldn't read the gauges correctly.
Sorry, couldn't resist. 35's and a heavy foot could without a doubt be a big contributing factor.

Did you reset the mpg's before your trip?

I get that mpg running around town but as soon as I get out on the open road I'm consistently getting 19-22 mpg depending on speed, trip length, and such. I pretty much run Eco in the drive mode and I don't have a heavy foot on the accelerator. I also use the cruise if I'm on a long trip on the interstate.

Sounds about right given the lift, the 35's and assuming less than fully "broken-in" mileage.
No matter where it finally shakes out at, you'll typically give up 2 to 3 for the lift and 35's.
LOTS of threads in here about mileage, and the effects of lift/big tires.

My mpg's took a serious turn for the better at just over 3K miles. Others have said it takes 5 to 10K.
I'm at stock height and lightweight, wimpy 20" Falkens and I'm getting a really consistent 19-20 commuting 12 miles to work. A few stops but mostly 55-63 mph.
Road trip over the long weekend with combined passengers/payload of ~1K# and minimum 65 to quite a bit of 75-80 and I still averaged 21-22.
    Disclaimers:
I burn non-E 91 in it exclusively. Corn fortified fuel will affect your mpg and I'm not too hip on long-term effects of ethanol.
    Auto start-stop disabled. Hate it.
"Standard" cruise control only. Adaptive cruise applies the brakes too much and mileage suffers.
Sport driving mode when commuting, Eco on highway road trips, Normal everywhere else.

As @NickBrewer mentioned a few replies above mine, you're doing slightly better than you think you are if you haven't taken the increased tire diameter into account.

Yeah the truck is calculating less distance than what you are actually traveling so the mpg's will be underestimated as well so it's probably closer to 14.5.

I'm in the 14-15 range with a hybrid and 35" tires. I was expecting better, since my non-hybrid F150 with 35" tires previously averaged 17-18. And I drive them both the same, not a heavy foot. Towing my side x side on the trailer, approximately 3,400 lbs, I get 10. I used to get 12 with the F150. I think the problem is gearing on these trucks. The F150 had 3.55s in the rear and the Tundras have 3.31s. Add the taller tire and it reduces the final gear ratio. I believe the turbos have to kick on more often due to the high gearing. 3.55 or 3.73s would be great and probably tick mileage up a little to reduce the turbo use. I do love the truck though, don't flame me as a complainer.

I just came back from a couple of road trips. One was ~400 miles, averaged 18 mpg corrected. That was 80-85 mph. The other was up the mountains ~200 miles, averaged 16.7 mpg, about 75 mph.

    Around town I'm about 16.5

I'm hoping an upgraded gearing becomes available from someone in the future.

“How to get v8 fuel economy from a v6.”

    Lift creates excess drag.
    35s weigh ~25lb more each.
Now your v6 has to make more boost to get going (heavier tires) and to keep going (excess drag).

Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

Yeah, I get 17-18 mpg but I am on not quite 35s but 34.5s and no lift with a hybrid so I would say that is right.

I get 11.5-12.0 mpg towing a 6000lb travel trailer going 70mph……. I get about 17.5-18.0 mpg when not towing… mixed driving. My calculated and truck’s stated mpg are within tenths of a mpg of each other too.

Ditto. Just averaged 12 from Alamosa to Santa Fe pulling about 5k of camper, 65 speed limits and pushing 80 passing the slowpokes. In normal day to day, 17 mpg.

I find it hard to believe that 35’s could knock that much off the mileage. Once you do the math for the speedometer change it probably won’t be that bad.

Then again, OP modded their Tundra :spending:

I made it so that my Tundra gets worse fuel economy and now my Tundra gets worse fuel economy...is how i interpreted the question.

Stock height and tires here, on 15 mile commute ranging from 35-65 mph with several stops, I can baby it to 18s but average 16-17. On a longer drive at 60-70 speeds without lot of stop and go, like country roads (not highway where I’m doing 80+) I can get 20-21.

@HulkHog you are far far far from the first person to ask this exact question.............

As has been reiterated over and over before you, you lifted a brick in the air and now it has more drag, you likely bumped up to a 12.5" wide tire so considerably more rolling resistance, and then the 35" tires probably weighs 25+ lb's per corner. What did you expect to get? Near what it was before?

You also need to adjust your mileage for your 35's and not sure exactly what size you got but you're probably in the neighborhood of about 7%-10% off so you can add another 1-1.5 mpg to that 13.5 to get about 14.5-15 mpg actual based on the real distance traveled being further than your odometer reads. Try a mileage tracker on your phone on the next road trip to see how far off odometer to real mileage actually is.
    upload_2024-7-9_8-0-52.png

I personally saw a 2-4 mpg jump in mileage around 10k miles.

You wanted a lift and 35's so now you just have to ignore the gas pump or put it back to stock.

I’m running 285/75R18s. These are 34.8” tires (35.1” depending on the wheel it’s mounted on).

The stock tires the speedometer is calibrated for are 275/65R18. My current tires on paper are 8.4% larger (tiresize.com).

Due to inflation pressures and the way the larger LT tire disproportionately deforms* as it rolls, the difference between my speedometer and actual GPS speed is 5%, not the expected 8.4%.

Get a free GPS speed app, and check it against your dash at several speeds.

*I suspect the larger E load LT tire deforms more because the PSI we run them at (~38-40) is lower as a % of its max inflation compared to the SL load tire specified on the door jamb.
