Has anyone blacked out or de-chromed the platinum badge on the door? I’m wrestling with how to tackle the only chrome left. Thought of getting the letters wrapped??

Or painting the whole area. But ideally would like letters to contrast.

I like the black chrome on the mustache and wish there was an aftermarket option.

You could try plastidip. I’ve used it to black out chrome in the past and it’s done a good job and lasted a while.

I’m in the same boat. I’m considering just removing them all together for a cleaner look.

I removed mine completely after they started to fall off on their own. I prefer the cleaner look.

Really nice truck there. I’ve thought of removal but without a lift or wheels/tires feel like it’s too bland. Just my opinion.

I have 11k miles on the truck and on my 3rd set of door mouldings (adhesive issues under warranty). So who knows how long these will last!
I may try plastidip as it’s easy to undo.

These are very poorly designed parts, and will certainly fail again which is another reason I decided to do away with them completely. I'm amazed Toyota hasn't fixed this issue yet.

Yep, mine were starting to fail/fall off within days of owning the truck.

I agree with removal. A much cleaner look than the cheap looking trim on the doors. They can be removed with ease lol.

I’m not looking for a poll on who thinks they should be removed.

I agree with the removal too if you hate the chrome. There are black chrome spray paints out there, so take the tedious tedious time and tape off the letters and spray with plastidip or black chrome...then peel the tape off and you're deleted.

Asks about how to get rid of chrome. Get mad when given way to get rid of chrome.

I'll give you an answer directly related to your question because I hate it when my threads go like this.

I'm pretty sure someone posted about doing what youre looking to do. IIRC, this guy even got rid of the "spear" part of the trim and just left a blacked out "Platinum" with a modified oem surround. I'm looking for the pics because it was posted here...I just cant find it. I know you arent looking to delete the spear part of the badge, but it should have info on the blacking out.

So far I've only found this, from soneone else who pulled it apart...seems like it would be easy to paint over if needed

Thank you for the idea. I found Plasti Dip - luxury metal color and gave it a try first on the front grill emblem just to get familiar with working with it. It came out really nice so going to tackle the door trim this weekend and I’ll share results. The luxury metal color is perfect as it’s not bland black. It has flake to it.

Thanks Eddie. Great find. I’m still being a douche about it honestly as I do like some color offset. My truck is all black and I noticed this weekend that “platinum” is only spot that is not black (except wheel center caps- replaced soon)

once it gets under 100 degrees here for a day or two I’ll try out plasti dip and share results.
