I recently had it recalibrated. The service guy said long as you dont disconnect the wire from the sensor it wont need recalibration. Now I need to remove the grill to install bulbs.

Is there a chance the PCS will malfunction if I disconnect?

No. I Have removed my grill multiple times and it's never been an issue disconnecting it. It will throw an error if you turn the truck on without it connected but that will clear as soon as you reconnect it.

I have disconnected mine more times than I can even remember and it’s never given me any issue. I just disconnected it last week for a bumper install and zero issues. Maybe you’re more cautious than me but I don’t see a way of removing the grill without disconnecting the sensor. Keep us posted! Good luck

No. Just disconnect the plug under the cover and pull the whole grill piece off. I’ve done this more times than I can count with zero issues.
