    Lots of stuff!
Doesn't this just mean that Toyota will notify the owners that there is a recall with the usual disclaimer like this: "working on a remedy and gathering parts and putting together instructions" sort of thing?

I don't expect them to have a solution to this mess for a long time. Look at the fuel line recall, if that is any indication of how slow they are.

And they have the updated part for all the new models coming off the assembly line, just not for us current owners…. Toyota has not had a great track record.

They want the ole good Toyota dependability. For them dependability/reliability is a top priority. "Engine grenades - no shit, dealer will fix it" is not an option for so many people.

Dependability is the only reason I’m here. It’s also why I’m in a ‘21.

If some massive recall news came out about <1% of 2019-2021 trucks, the very last thing I would do is try to unload my truck in a very soft market before Toyota has announced exactly what they’re going to do about it, especially if that announcement is coming in a month and double-especially if I have no idea whether or not my truck is even affected. I just find it hilariously irrational.

Which is very unlikely, because for 11 prior years this truck was VERY reliable, and Toyota is very conservative in making changes. And nothing much changed in 2019-2021 anyways. No transmission cooler? Transmission will fail prematurely. At like 300k miles, not 500k. If you do nothing and keep driving on factory ATF fill. Steering rack 25% chance of blowing up? The truck is still driveable and you can definitely have your way back to where it can be fixed.

I knew this platform wasn't perfect, but I fought for wife's last production V8 Sequoia, even dealers wanted to seat her in a new unknown V6TT one. It was before any major failures started to surface, but I played safe and got a V8. Glad I listened to my engineering wisdom.

Agreed, they are truck buyers that need a truck to do truck like things. The Big 3 have far better features and whiz bang tech, but they are not nearly as reliable for work and other truck like things. Here in TX I bet you see 3 Tundra service trucks for every GM or Dodge. Fort seems very popular too.

Anyhow, If the engine can't be depended on and depreciates accordingly there's nothing more to lose. Might as well have the better tech and go roll the dice with an shit box from UAW.

Did anyone hear more about the Alabama engine plant hiring 350 new workers? Someone was saying maybe a good indication of them ramping up to produce parts in advance of the recall. Hopefully new engines?

I wonder about the feasibility of returning the old engines to Huntsville for remanufacture. I don't think Toyota owes anyone a new engine. They must fulfill their commitment to a reliable enough engine to satisfy the .gov.

Wishful thinking on ramping for recall. TMMAL manufactures more than the Gen3 tundra engine. Builds more than 3,000 engines each day: Four-cylinder + HEV engines (RAV4, Corolla, Corolla Cross, Highlander, Sienna); 2.4L Turbo + HEV engines (Tacoma); and Twin-turbo V6 + HEV engines (Tundra, Sequoia).

I suspect hiring was for anticipated production other than tundra recalls. All speculation as only Toyota knows what they are hired for.

I see a 2022 TRD Pro in NC with 214,282 miles listed on AutoTrader. Maybe a typo given they want $66k and the BB listed is $36k.

Six other trucks in the 100-110k range.

Tundra's low end models where fleets live is not nearly as diverse or cheap as the big 3 so high mileage rigs by retail consumers are not as plentiful.

It is a typo. There is a dash pic in the listing. At there is on CarGurus.

That would certainly be the route the big 3 would take in a similar situation.

They would probably do something to try and shamelessly convince their customers it was their fault their engine blew up. Something like change the maintenance specifications and claim that crankshaft bearings require regular maintenance and even periodic replacement under normal wear and tear.....

That sounds completely reasonable to me. During your regular oil change, just replace the drain bolt washer and the crankshaft bearings.

Clearly, the recall doesn't help but trade in values are very distorted right now due to excess supply of new and used. Dealers are already taking steps to move aging inventory and will reduce trade in offers to get things back in balance. The CDK breach will take a while to sort as well. If you were shopping last week you probably got shut down. Personally, I'm glad to see downward pressure on new/used and trades.

350 new employees is a 30% staff increase over the 1,150 there prior. Heck of a jump.

Those idiots at CDK paid the hackers $65 MM. I’m sorry but it’s time to criminalize corporations paying these ransoms. It’s straight negligence to leave your data vulnerable to these attacks at this point. Easily avoidable, yet so many folks don’t take it seriously and all told they are paying almost to billion dollars a month in ransoms to criminals.

Pay now or pay later. Companies and local govt always think it is a grand idea to fund cyber security AFTER an attack.

Complacency is a big problem in IT. I once worked for a large govt contractor that risked loosing 20 years of govt records because of failure to test their backup process. Same group of guys doing the same backups forever and nobody ever tested it until it failed and they found out them their backups were our crapola. The CEO of a fortune 100 company was on those calls

The criminalizing paying ransoms would be to dry up the revenue source. No payees no perps but it sucks to be the early targets that loose all your data

Toyota I think is old IT. That comes from the production shutdown couple years ago which involved insufficient server resources to execute their backups which is a legacy computing classic. They are not cloud based with real time scaleability. I have also guessed ancient tech is why Toyo can't support factory orders. May still be Cobol. Pandora box to change one group of code.

TFL Trucks spoke to a Toyota Engineer about blowing a 4wd front on an off-road run. There answer was basically de-tune the motor to not deliver so much torque instead of beefing up the failed component. Not a good answer.

I don’t know, maybe for some guys the recall is an opportunity to get the green light from their wife to get a different truck. I mean I’m not doing that but I could see it happening.
