Anybody run NGK Iridium 2309 LFR7AIX plugs? Saw them on Prospeed site and thought I would try them. I put these in when I was getting a #7 misfire about 5k miles ago. Every once in awhile I get random misfires. @snivilous was working with me and thought to have that under control but every now and then it pops up. It clears and all is good for a little bit. I ordered some Denso IKH24's as I never had an issue. Will swap out when they arrive. Thought I'd ask...

I'm running the NGKs in mine. I really don't have any misfires after closing the gap some.

You say that your misfires clear, are you indicating that they're setting a CEL? I know that you and I have touched on this briefly. When I mentioned that I was seeing occasional misfires, they weren't tripping a CEL, but you could spot a few in the logs.

I'll pull them and see what's up. I did test gapping down to .021 with no issues. Good for high boost and prevent blow out. Test and re-test...

I'm not sure how many other people ran these HX spark plugs here, but I ran in my Tundra for the short period with no issues. As well as the Tacoma. And it seems both trucks use the same spark plugs, at least in the s/c spec.

Copied from front page of Taco world thread.

"Bonus: @Kelvin has discovered a new type of spark plug made by NGK made of Ruthenium. They are still mostly unexplored territory, but may provide a more stable and complete burn process through each combustion cycle.
@BillDaCat8 and myself are now running these in our trucks. They are originally meant for VWs and Audis, but they work on our application as well. The benefits over Iridium IKH-22 is immense! Notable smoother running idle and even more notable useable power in the powerband and has been obtained by running these. These can be found anywhere, but you can find these usually the same day at your local Napa auto parts store.

    NGK P/N: LFER7BHX/ 95125"

"PSPE® (projected square platinum electrode) provides the best ignitability and service life for high-heat engines. This NGK-patented design is recommended for turbo and supercharged engines."

I’d consider the ruthenium’s next time I do plugs. Currently running Denso IKH24s that I did not adjust the gap on, problem free for 20k miles.

    Many on the way.
    An NGK 7 is a Denso 22. 6 = 20 and 8 = 24.

The DILFR7K9G was Toyota’s choice for their boosted 8ARFTS engine. They have a 5k ohm resistance, which Toyota seems to run. It’s the DFE plug shown above in @M3Tundra-JK post.

The LFER7BHX has 1k resistance, so it should fire with more oomph… there has to be some down sides, though. It is the PSPE plug.

I had an odd idle issue (dropped to about 650, went to 850 rinse & repeat in drive when stopped) at about 5k miles on the LFER7BHX, I had another set (there was some buy 2 get something deal) I swapped them, no change and the 5k plugs look fine. Sniv raised my idle a touch, issue solved!

Anyone get random P1605? I get them occasionally and clear goes away. Very random on when it happens but I can tell when it effects the truck. Seems to go into an odd idle or driving/limp mode, sounds different and runs different. Clear it runs great. I'll be doing some logging when I have time @snivilous. Threw a new maf in didn't help probably do coil packs and plugs just because.

Here is some info from asking AI about it for you lol.

A P1605 diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is a generic powertrain code related to the engine control module (ECM) or powertrain control module (PCM). The specific meaning of the code can vary depending on the vehicle manufacturer, but generally, it indicates an issue with the ECM/PCM itself or its communication.

Here are some common interpretations and potential causes of a P1605 code:

    1. General Definition: ECM/PCM malfunction or internal fault.
    2. Common Causes:
    • Faulty ECM/PCM.
    • Wiring issues (such as damaged, corroded, or loose connectors).
    • Issues with the power supply to the ECM/PCM (like a bad ground or battery problem).
    • Software or firmware corruption in the ECM/PCM.
    • Poor communication between the ECM/PCM and other control modules.
    3. Symptoms:
    • Engine may not start or may stall.
    • Poor engine performance.
    • Illuminated Check Engine Light.
    • Various drivability issues.

    Troubleshooting Steps

    1. Check the Battery and Charging System:
    • Ensure the battery is in good condition and fully charged.
    • Check the alternator and charging system for proper operation.
    2. Inspect Wiring and Connectors:
    • Look for damaged, corroded, or loose wiring and connectors related to the ECM/PCM.
    • Pay special attention to grounds and power supply connections.
    3. Check for Other Codes:
    • Use a scan tool to check for other related trouble codes, as they might provide additional context or indicate a related issue.
    4. Reset the Code:
    • Clear the code using a scan tool and see if it returns. Sometimes, the issue may be a temporary glitch.
    5. Software/Firmware Update:
    • Check with the manufacturer for any available software or firmware updates for the ECM/PCM.
    6. ECM/PCM Replacement:
    • If all else fails, the ECM/PCM may need to be replaced. This should be a last resort after all other potential causes have been ruled out.

Given the critical role of the ECM/PCM in vehicle operation, diagnosing and repairing a P1605 code can be complex. It may be advisable to consult a professional mechanic or a dealership for accurate diagnosis and repair.

    I found this

    P1605
This DTC is stored if the engine speed drops below the set speed.
Using the Techstream, the conditions present when the DTC was stored can be confirmed by referring to the freeze frame data. Freeze frame data records engine conditions when a malfunction occurs. This information can be useful when troubleshooting.
It is necessary to check if the vehicle ran out of fuel before performing troubleshooting, as this DTC is also stored when idling is unstable due to running out of fuel.
DTC NO. DTC DETECTION CONDITION TROUBLE AREA
P1605 After 5 seconds or more elapse after starting the engine, with the engine running, the engine speed drops to 400 rpm or less (1 trip detection logic). • Air leak in intake system
    • Purge VSV
    • Mass air flow meter
    • Engine coolant temperature sensor
    • Wire harness or connector
    • Air fuel ratio sensor
    • Power supply circuit (purge VSV, fuel injector assembly, ignition coil assembly)
    • Fuel pump
    • Fuel pump control system
    • Fuel line
    • Throttle body with motor assembly
    • Camshaft timing oil control valve assembly
    • Knock sensor
    • Ignition coil assembly
    • Fuel injector assembly
    • Spark plug(s)
    • Air conditioning system
    • Power steering system
    • Electrical load signal system
    • A/T system
    • Park/neutral position switch assembly
    • ECM
    INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT: In contrast to normal malfunction diagnosis for components, circuits and systems, DTCs P1603 and P1605 are used to determine the malfunctioning area from the problem symptoms and freeze frame data when the user mentions problems such as engine stall.
As these DTCs can be stored as a result of certain user actions, even if these DTCs are output, if the customer makes no mention of problems, clear these DTCs without performing any troubleshooting and return the vehicle to the customer.

    • If any other DTCs are output, perform troubleshooting for those DTCs first.
    • Use any information from the customer problem analysis about the condition of the vehicle at the time when the problem occurred (how the engine stopped, conditions when the engine was restarted, etc.) as a reference.
    SYMPTOM SUSPECTED AREA
Engine vibration occurs and engine stops Air-fuel ratio abnormal
Engine stops with no engine vibration Ignition system, injection stoppage, high load from external parts
Engine can be started with accelerator pedal depressed Insufficient air volume
Rough idling after engine started Air-fuel ratio abnormal, abnormal combustion
    • Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. Freeze frame data records engine conditions when a malfunction occurs. This information can be useful when troubleshooting.
    • When confirming the freeze frame data, be sure to check all 5 sets of freeze frame data .
    • When DTC P1603 (Engine Stall History) is stored, DTC P1605 (Rough Idling) is also stored. When confirming freeze frame data, check DTC P1605. The ECM stores DTC P1605 first. Therefore, 5 sets of freeze frame data can be confirmed through DTC P1605, enabling the technician to obtain more information.
    • When confirming freeze frame data, if there are multiple items related to the cause of the malfunction, perform troubleshooting for all related items.
    • Try to operate the vehicle under the conditions recorded in the freeze frame data which were present when the malfunction occurred. Confirm the data at this time and the data when the engine is idling (engine warmed up, no load, and shift lever in D or N) and compare these data with the freeze frame data.
    • Inspections take into account the fact that the malfunction may not have reoccurred and place emphasis on checking the vehicle conditions present at the time when the malfunction occurred.
    • When performing inspections, jiggle the relevant wire harnesses and connectors in an attempt to reproduce malfunctions that do not always occur.
    Inspection flow:
Using freeze frame data, narrow down the parts to be inspected according to the vehicle conditions at the time when the malfunction occurred.

Lol, hey it would give me some ideas personally on what to check, especially how Rey uses his truck. Jumping it and what not I could see a broken ground termination, or a bad battery. Maybe a bad alternator. All of these things it suggested.

I'll have to check grounds etc. But also the note of dropping below 400 rpm triggering it also seems interesting. Mine does drop but never noticed how far when I let off the gas in certain scenarios. I'll have to monitor this. @e30cabrio higher idle adjustment also maybe in order.
