About as good as could be expected with 3 kids under 4.

We had nice weather every day except one. Campground was pretty much empty. Had the beach and the trails in the forest to ourselves. All in all a good shakedown trip to prep for our bigger trip the week after next.

Whatever this forum told me to do
    Nonsense post.

    1. I had no idea that 1,000 watt amplifiers* are so readily available for the home for $500.
    I am re-born.
My high excursion subs are high excursioning.
the scientific metric being...the wife came out and said she was embarrassed.

    2. headed to the lake Wed for:
    fireworks off the dock.
    street tacos on the blackstone
    smores on the solo stove
old people surfing behind a boat
    floating whilst watching the sunset.

    3. my son (23) hit a strength spurt & it is killing me.
Tomorrow we battle for Skwatter's rights.
Skwatter's rights = he who skwats the most chooses the music & exercises.

    * this one does 1,550 watts into 4 ohms, but I'm running 6 ohms.
does it do rated power - yes. this is a smaller amp, but same.

I am going to follow @nobodyintexas example and post a rando…

    • The Formula E race was pretty fun. Those cars make a crazy sound at full push out of a corner. Hope they come back to the PNW next year.
    • Drive home last night was 170 miles of freeway. Truck averaged 20.x mpg which I thought was great given it isn’t broken in yet, the computer is still “learning” and I was driving 70-75mph for most of the trip. GT would have gotten 17 at best.
    • Commute in was fun today. Lots of road construction on my drive, so that unloaded HD suspension reminded me of how amazing the TRD shocks were.
    • Yesterday was 7hrs in the sun/ heat and 60% humidity (that’s high for around here) and 15,000 steps when I finally crawled into bed. I am hydrated but the body is not happy today. Engage zombie mode.

They had two cars on display to get pictures with, but I didn’t pay for the pit passes. There is RV parking at one end of the raceway. No services, but we might do that next year just to have a better place to hang out between the heats. IMG_5064.jpg

Those crown amps are phenomenal. The XLS series are digital amps meaning lighter, much smaller heat sink needed, very efficient, and huge power. Oh, and the fan rarely kicks in so it stays quiet if you are using it in a home theater application.

Been using a 1501 in my basement for several years, first on an 18, then a vented 15, now on a pair of 15’s with triple passive radiators. The subs will take all the power it can dish out, but the passives run out of excursion around 700RMS @16 hz. Yup, I tuned them infrasonic. More fun that way. Have an XLS 2001 in reserve if I decide it needs more sauce. The subs are hitting 18mm of excursion at full tilt but will push out to 45mm one way.

this is a whole-nuther aspect of sound reproduction that most over look.

back in the day a 6mm excursion woofer was audiophile level.

now we have subs that can move 3 Inches!!

although the neighbors probably don't appreciate that tid-bit as much as me.

If I had my druthers...I'd rock some 15" Adire Brahma's and break my foundation.

so far, the crap I'm now using should suffice for a few years.

That'll get the job done! I chose my subs with crazy high excursion based partly on the ability to shove them in tiny sealed boxes and boost the heck out of the bottom end if I needed (+10db at 20-something hz to get flat response to 20hz in a sealed box). Ended up working out a different design with the passives so I didn't need all the excursion they offer. The PR design also ends up being much more efficient so instead of a pair of XLS amps I can run both off a single amp with prodigious amount of low end, at the expense of six passive radiators. It really wanted eight PR's, but you gotta draw the line somewhere...

Have you ever watched Edge of Tomorrow? About 30 sends in to the opening scene, the sound engineers threw in a nice zinger: full LFE bursts tones. Count how many tones you hear and how many tones you FEEL. It's fun. Just don't turn up it up all the way at first..

no..I don't do movies that much. in the den, we have an SVS Micro 3000. it's amazing for an 8" sub.

My happy-place is in the garage. So..Rush, Dream Theatre, Megadeath, etc.

with the Crown - double bass kickdrums are now Stoopid.

Right?!? I think my first set of Fosgate 10's had something like 5mm Xmax and I ran four of them off 150 watts RMS. In contrast, I installed a 4000 watt amplifier for a customer a few years ago on dual 18's pushing 32mm Xmax (again, to push the subs DEEP in to infrasonic response rather than rock concert levels of volume).

I've got a pair of 18 Adire subs in the shop. Got a smoking' deal on them and then chickened out trying to integrate them in the basement. The 15's can already be too much if I turn up the amp... By sitting in the shop, I mean they are sitting in their shipping boxes unopened. I don't think the shop would still be standing if I tried hooking them up. And I happen to like my neighbors. For now.
