Anyone tried adding a RCI or Talons skid plate with a gulf state installed cat shield? I’m about to ready to pull the trigger on a front skid but not sure of the compatibility. For reference here is what my cat shield looks like

Following as i have the factory CAT shield also. I don't see a reason why it wouldn't work as it just bolted?

Haven't bought one for the Tundra but I had the RCI full skid plate system, rock rails, and cat shields on an F-150. They make good shit but it's heavy/awkward AF if/when you have to remove them to do any service that they are in the way of.

I have the gulf state cat shield and was able to install the front TRD Skid. Dimples on both skids line up but don't mesh completely but front skid is level. I used the cat shield bolts with washers at the overlap. I've seen others use the RCI or Talons and they meshed better with the cat shield. Adding @Talon2006 for comments. Here's mine...

What is the point of view if cat shields trap to much heat?

Understand. I'm wondering if they trap too much heat in use and when you park?

Its 100 degrees in TX lol we care more about our CATS being stolen then the heat.

@Talon2006 Will the Hybrid Transfer case plate fit over the stock Factory Cat Shield?

Should fit over it or under it just like it would with my shield, as it looks like they use the home holes. I cannot give a 100% promise on that though.

I do have to ask, wouldn't the transmission pan be the most important thing you would want to check if doing skids, might as well just order our transmission skid too and have everything covered :p.

Either should fit ok ish.... They both use the same holes and will have the same issues with how the cat shield has the bolt holes dimpled.

Mine you will not be able to install the 4" button head bolt without drilling the cat shield, but technically you can get away without having it. Just be sure to double check the M8 bolts after install as they have been known to loosen.

My other response kind of goes with... if you are installing skids, don't you want to protect the transmission pan as well? :p

Sounds good. I don’t mind drilling out the holes in the cat plate in order to use bigger bolts. I’m ok with the cat plate I have, makes it easier to service the trans. I don’t really go much off roading but I want the front because the thin oe carpet skid it dumb and other reason is to protect my fumoto oil drain valve. Oh forgot about oil filter too, just remove the little access panel.

Well I ended up purchasing a RCI steel skid plate and it fit fine with the dealer cat shield. Had to add some washers for spacers in the rear since my cat shield has dimples where it bolts down to the frame.

I know this is a bit old but just a few questions if you can answer would be appreciated.

the rear locking tabs on the oem skid plate, did you just leave those free floating or did you remove the two bolts on the cat shield and slip the TRD skid plate in the locking tabs in the rear?

trying to install my skid plate and have same gulf coast cat shield and can’t seem to figure out the rear two bolts that go where the cat shield is mounted.
    Thanks

Bend the OEM tabs out so they just get in the way

I’ll try it out, I think I should be able to just grind that tab out if anything and get some longer bolts for the rear

@sudobash any chance you know the thread pattern/length for the bolts on the gulf coast cat shield?

Going to work on getting this done over the weekend and I guess I’ll see if it will work. Would rather swap out/remove the OE installed cat shield than go aftermarket on the skid plate

The install instructions show the following:

    2x M8 Uncaptured Bolts
    2x M8 Flat Washers
    2x 5/16" Carriage Bolts
    2x 5/16" Lock Nuts
    2x External 5mm Spacer
    2x Internal 25mm Spacer

No lengths are given on the bolts mentioned above.
