Saw that video yesterday and commented on it as well. Tons of people end up modifying their rigs just to make them worse on the road, without ever using them to their full potential offroad. The proper process for wheeling/modifying is as follows:
Step 1: Wheel your rig
Step 2: Find the limits
Step 3: Modify accordingly
Step 4: Repeat steps 1-3.

I lol everytime I see this; that and the orange traction boards mounted on the roof rack all the while I see you daily this thing on the street every day to work.

 

This guy articulates the very things I noticed when I joined up here and began thinking about what to do to my truck. I got really excited about making cool upgrades to it so it could handle crazy terrain, but what I’ve found is that almost all of the “off road” routes I want to take can be navigated by a bone stock truck or less. I’m not super into crawling or taking a difficult trail just for the sake of taking the toughest terrain I can find. I want to access a campsite or a hiking trail or a lake at the end of my off roading, and it seems like mostly I can do that from fire roads or otherwise pretty pedestrian trails that don’t require sliders or lockers.

If someone knows of some places you need to have those things in order to get to great camping and hiking, please feel free to educate me!
