    Ooof.

Yeah, that's my one pet peeve (lost luggage). I remember when we went to Italy and Spain while pregnant with #1. She was 6.5 months in, flight arrived late to CDG, when the volcano was going nuts (2010). the Parisians wanted to split us apart and send us to Italy separately, 12 hours apart. We said no, they managed to get us on a flight after 4-5 hours. We got there to Firenze, no bags. Had to go buy clothes our 1st day, me running around in Italian street clothes was hilarious, and finding her pregnancy clothes was a bear.

They got our bags to us after 2 days, when they dropped off, her bras were hanging out of a bag with truck tire marks across it, bag split open, other bag had been run over too, 1/3 of hers was missing, half of mine was stained. I will say, though. Delta stepped up. Bought us new bags (Mandarina Duck at that), paid for the clothing we bought to get us by, and gave us a $3k stipend for clothes.

Hope the shit gets better. Eat some fish & chips for us :D

Until someone mentioned it the other day, I think I failed to realize just how damn easy it is to get quality used set of 285/70r17 from new Jeep take-offs. Seems like a lot of them have Wildpeak A/T s or something? And I'm seeing a lot of 265/70r17 takeoffs too, maybe from Tacos?

    Curious about two things:
    1. Waht current "offroad" vehicles running 275/70r17s in A/T flavors new, in case I wanted to hunt for a 2nd set of wheels/tires? (or any way to look that info up, what OEM tire size/model new vehicles use?)
    2. What are some other take-off friendly sources I can use to adjust my searches?
More than anything, I'm kinda eyeballing getting a 2nd set of wheels with C rated tires, maybe in 285, with alloy bulletholes or something. I have a line on the wheels already. But will need tires, and if I can't stick with 275/70r17, given my new Mickeys are the same size as some half-worn 285's, I may just go 285 in a less-aggressive, knowing the fitment will be damn near the same as my current.

I’d like to see Star Trek and Star Wars exchange cast members for a week to see what sort of shenanigans they get involved.

    For example:
    Warf and Chewbacca
    Darth Vader and Khan
    Deanna Troi and Princess Lea
    Spock and R2-D2
    Hans Solo and Capt Kirk
    etc…

@shifty` considering 285's? Hell froze over? Never thought I'd see the day.

All the take off 285's I see on Facebook around here are usually ridiculous overpriced. If I'm going to consider slightly used tires it needs to be a substantial discount. Buying used means I get no warranty or free tire rotation. If I could find a set for $600 I'd consider it. Most of the time people still want $1000 or more.

285 in c-rating would only be half a centimeter smaller than my Mickeys on the three major brands I'm seeing *IF* the 285 in question is full tread. It'd be wider, but overall, it's negligible.

I am seeing some Jeep takeoffs in the Wildpeak AT3 that are in the $500-800 range for 4-5 tires within 100 miles or so from me. But I'd really prefer to find something with wheels included under $1k. Not because I want something different than what I've got. I'd just like to roll some other tires for a little bit, and maybe play around with looks.

285/7xR1x is like the standard 33 (technically more like a 32.8) by which all lifted Toyotas will be judged.

I think R2D2 was a more critical character and C-3P0 was just there to add humor and translate.

It would be funny to see Scotty there screaming at R2D2 to speak English. :D

I think all you can get is my size. 255x85xr16 = 33x10x16. I looked and looked for 33x10.5x16 but found nothing. Zilch. Zero. Nada.

Not hellbent. My* reality is, the difference is marginal when you think about how oversized my specific tires are vs. other tires with the exact same size branding. But that's not the case for everyone, not everyone is buying Mickey Thompsons that are 0.3" larger than what they should be, putting them 0.2" away from a 285/70r17.

The brunt of the point I'm trying to impress on others is this:
    • There's a lot of cons to going above 265/70r17, which are already 1" larger than factory (at least on later models)
    • There's a lot of cons (from street driving perspective) going with anything above load rating "C"
    • You can visually get absurdly similar appearance with 275/70r17 and 265/70r17 as you see from folks running 285/70r17 so it is NOT necessary to go 285 unless you have some sensible reason to do so
I'm not anti-285/70r17. I AM anti-people-who-think-they-need-285s. I think a lot of people here impress onto others "285 or GTFO". I think that stance is disingenuine, and trying to push that is bad form. Not everyone needs 285/70r17. A lot of people will be happy with 285/70r17, byt I think that's shitty if people here are telling folks that's the way everyone needs to go knowing there are other 17" options that are great. And per your point, even used 285s can be upwards of $1k, so I personally don't want to be pushing that narrative knowing that's $1k of someone else's hard-earned money.

I think it's one of those cases where, if someone comes here talking about wanting to do stuff that'd benefit from 285s, I'll pitch it. If they come on here just looking to refresh suspension, or just to improve looks, 285s are not the first thing I'll push down their throat. I also realize now, after putting a couple thou miles on my oversized 275/70r17 on my current suspension, I highly doubt there's anything or anywhere you can get to with your setup that I can't. Which ultimately tells me 285s are negligible, and potentially overkill. So why in the hell would anyone push 285s when there's no viable reason, beyond appearances and potentially adding problems? I'm not necessarily modifying my truck to look cool, it's just a side benefit, but I wouldn't wish some of the undesirable side effects on the average dude only modding for looks on here.... :)

But if my unusually oversized 275s are negligibly smaller than your 285s, and I can easily get used 285s for significantly cheaper than I paid for my new 275s (which was cheaper than you paid for your new 285 KO2s, IIRC), I'd go for it, and deal with the fallout from added rubbing. I'm already dealing with the side effects, I've dug that grave, I'll lie in it.
