So my Tundra is an 04 DC 2wd 4.7. I am replacing the tranny. the replacement is out of an 04 sequia. Bothe are 30-40LE but the second set of numbers to the right of the model # are different. First tag(original) 35000/ 34300
Replacement says 35000/ 34270. I’m not sure if these numbers matter however, when I pick the tranny up, I was told that they are exactly the same. The one difference I see is that on the tail shaft housing of the replacement transmission, it has what looks to be a speed sensor and on my original one it does not have the sensor. Can I simply swap out the tail shaft housing and be OK or do I have the wrong transmission? I have confirmed through other posts that the replacement is out of an 042 Wheel Dr., but the second set of numbers help me puzzled as to why that sensor is there on one and not on the other

If your replacement has a speed sensor in the tail shaft, that means your speedometer and mileage won't work. That trans uses a gear in there to send the signal to the cluster.

However, that seems odd. Your 4 spd truck should have that sensor as well. The 5 spd trucks switched to the wheel speed sensors. Can you get pics of the tail housings on both trannies?

    Thanks for the reply,
The first picture is the one currently in the truck. The second and third one are the replacement transmission. Both have the small plug on the bottom side. I guess you might say and then replacement transmission has the larger sensor as well. On the original transmission you can see where that would have gone, but that hole is plugged on the original transmission.

So your replacement trans is definitely a 4spd gear driven trans. Unless they did something weird for the 04 model and went to the WSS, I don't think it will work. The sequoias were a year behind in tundras, so your equivalent model would be an 05 sequoia. I could be completely wrong on this though. I'd wait for a real expert to chime in. Maybe @empty_lord will make an appearance today.

I wonder if the Sequoia used wheel speed sensors due to the AWD aspect?

Not sure the difference. But there’s no harm in using the new transmission if it has extra bits. They just won’t be hooked up

Thank you for the input. I thought that might be the case but I’m not a tranny person. Thank you and thank you all.
