So my tundra is on my driveway. It does a long crank but will not start. When I put the key an turn it to on the fuel pump is not making a sound. Hence I suspect is a bad pump. My Tundra is a 2018 5.7 4x4 Flex Fuel with only 41k miles so Im thinking its just a defective pump that should have been recalled. I bought it used with less than 30k miles and I never drive it with a low tank. I will call Toyota tomorrow to talk to them but currently I will have to have it towed to them. Anyone out there still having issues with the fuel pumps or the Flex Fuel recalibration issues? Any ideas? I saw there was a lawsuit for faulty pumps but my Vin was not included.

Fuel pump is a possibility for sure.

However I'd consider that flex fuel systems are notorious for being glitchy. It could be the fuel sensor.

I'd disconnect the negative batt cable for 30 minutes. Reconnect and try again.

If you still don't hear the pump activate then there is probably a fuel pump relay that is faulty.

The fuel pump does not run in the “ON” key position. It only runs when cranking and when the engine is running. It doesn’t mean it’s not bad though, as the flex fuel trucks did have that issue. They also tend to track off course of what the ethanol content % is and that causes problems with fuel trims and poor starting, although they usually still start eventually.

The fuel system gets a prime from a brief activation of fuel pump when cycling the key to on position. It is a brief 1-3 second run of the fuel pump before cranking. It is in a timer and doesn’t do it with every successive key cycle.

I have money that says your alcohol density is off. My 2015 would do this when it went north of 45 or so. Get this reset and you will be off to the races.

My 2018 ffv did same thing a few months back. Turned out to be defective fuel pump. I felt same as you, should have been part of the recall but wasn't. I called Toyota direct and they towed to dealer and paid for pump. Dealer didn't think it was pump at first but finally figured it out.

I will try calling this Toyota Direct like you did and see if they help.

I agree with this as well. Get it reset. Mine was having a long crank but it would start after 5-6 seconds.

Towed it in to Toyota Friday. It is the fuel pump. They said Toyota will fix and cover it all cost but it will be a few days since they didn't have the fuel pump in stock. I asked the person on the phone if it was related to the Flex fuel technical bulletin and he said yes but didn't give any more details.

Hey hey. Yep picked it up they said they changed the pump and did refresh the ECU. Didn't charge me for anything. Thanks everyone for your replies.
