I finally pulled the trigger on a remote starter to help keep the doggie cool while I run into the store or whatever for a few minutes. Also to help cool down the car in summer before we get in to go somewhere.

went with the compustar t13 — thanks to everyone for all the input that led me to that decision.

cheapest quotes I got in the San Francisco Bay Area were an obnoxious $1800+ for the full system including the logic controller, drone, alarm, etc. The only add on I did NOT get is the keypad lock that gets mounted on the outside of the truck. That included an estimate of 4-5 hours of labor which is clearly total bs and Bay Area price gouging. So I drove instead for 5.5 hours in each direction through the mountains to go to a Compustar Pro dealer in Mammoth Lakes, CA who did the entire thing in what I expected it to take: 60-90 minutes. The dealer was Audio Republic. Install isn’t super hard, but I have neither the time nor patience anymore to do this kind of stuff. So gladly paid $180 in labor to have an expert do it for me.

Saved nearly $1,000 going out there.

and he did a great job.

If anyone is on the fence about the system, get it. And do NOT cheap out on getting Drone — it’s worth every penny and pays for itself if your insurance, like most, will give you a discount for having live GPS tracking on your car.

Any questions about the system, shoot. I’m happy to address them here. Very happy so far. It’s been a week.

Is that the one that unlocks the truck when the key fob is close?

Yes. That’s one of the nice-to-have features I wasn’t looking for. They call it “proximity unlock”.
