I imagine a scene in a movie, where some future disaster bricks all electric vehicles, anything connected to the internet can't function, and the heroes travel to the ruins of a museum, pull a dusty sheet off an odd ancient artifact, wondering aloud "what is Tacoma?", a key falls from sun visor and the engine starts right up.

Think about it. Either this guy added a trans cooler and the transmission still failed, or he didn't add one and it lasted 500,000 miles with no cooler.

I really want to know how often he did trans drain and fill (if at all), differential fluid changes, transfer case, etc.

I might call this dealer and see if they'll give me any info

Bet it was dealer serviced according to Toyota's maintenance plan, and the transmission was never touched.

I called yesterday. The woman in the shop said she’d give my number to the dedicated tech who works on that truck and he’d call me back and let me pick his brain. I’ll keep you posted.

Filling up daily is what makes a Tundra, a Tundra.

When Toyota offers to trade his truck again for a brand new 3rd Gen, I wonder if he’ll take it??? I heard there’s one 3rd gen that’s approaching 1 million miles. With only routine maintenance, 2 radio knobs, and 15 short block replacements.

Quick math in my head, both the wife and me driving since we were 16, all vehicles, I came up right around 701,000 miles. In both our lives spread across 17 vehicles.

That breaks down to an average of 41,000 miles per vehicle (only 4 have exceeded that), and 10,600 miles per year each over the 33 years both of us have been driving (21,200 combined yearly). I can't imagine almost a million miles in 5 years - in one vehicle. Amazing.

I don't want to think or talk about how much money we've wasted on cars over the years.

This is the only thing that keeps me on 33s. Looks tad tiny, but MPG is largely unaffected and offroadness is almost as good as with 35s.

I will be happy to reach 300,000 without anything major. 900,000 is unreal. Hell yeah!

Not yet. I told the lady to tell him to not worry about calling if he’s busy, just when/if he’s got a minute of down time.

She said they’re all super proud of the truck and want to see it hit 1M miles. Seemed pretty confident that he’d call me back.

Here’s some info. I’ve had truck since day one. Never towed with it ever. Was a work truck up till June 2023. Now it’s retired. Still own it. I’ve changed the Diffs, trans transfer case every 100,000 km. Oil changes every 8-10 K km. Couple went over. Was out of town Ect. 90% services at West Edm Toyota or the odd other Toyota dealer. If was out of town. Ect. original motor, trans transfer case diffs. All original never done nothing to them parts.

The most expensive thing I’ve done was the HVAC unit replaced two winters ago. Was like 2500$. Take the dash out for that. I just had the diffs done last oil change couple weeks ago. And the Transmission done before that. I change the coolant every 160,000 km. Had the steer fluid done also and what ever else needs to be done.
