I thought I’d asked everything at the stealership when I asked if it had a full size tire as a spare and the salesman said "Yes." And it IS a full size tire, but... it's stamped "Temporary", not for towing.

I unfortunately found this out while towing a 7,000# trailer.

Jerk sales clowns. Toyota saving a buck while a vehicle owner is stranded; this should not be allowed on a truck!

So... I'm replacing mine with a real tire this morning. You may want to check yours.

I mean, technically it is full sized. Its a lighter weight tire and I agree for your case it's worth upgrading to a tire with the same load rating. But its technically full sized.

Next time I get new rubber, since I'm going up a little in size I'll be updating whats on my spare just in case.

I saw a lot of guys on here getting wheels and tires in 5’s. Now I know why.

Trucks are for hauling and pulling, IMHO.

Or 6 and it makes rotations easy. Or on some of my cars I put the winter/summer tire in the spare tire spot.

This 2024 TRD Limited is my 9th Toyota truck and the first one where the spare tire doesn’t match the other 4. Came with Falken WildPeaks and a Michelin spare. I guess this is not a big deal since I’ve never used the spare tire for other than a temporary spare for the other 8 trucks. But at $65K price tag I think that they should provide a matching spare.

I’m just asking for spare that can tow the same payload and hauling capabilities as the other tires. At least make the customer aware and add it as an option instead of leaving them by the side of the highway with a surprise after loading a trailer in Summer temps and having to scramble. This isn’t a Kia or a Nissan we’re talking about here.

I certainly agree with your very valid concern. I just wanted others to know that it’s not a good idea to assume that a new truck still comes with a matching spare. I was certainly surprised when I looked at it. At first I wondered if the dealer swapped my spare out with one from another truck but a check of my VIN at the Toyota VIN Specification webpage showed that it was specified as a Michelin as the spare. So Toyota tried to save $50.
