You can lemon a vehicle that is taken out of service over the law threshold for a warrantable defect, even if it didn’t shit the bed first. In NC, it’s 20 business days or more in any 12 month period during the first 24 months/24k miles. If you’re confident in the repair and don’t choose to, it’s your truck, your decision. If I get to that point and the repair is full tear down by a local tech for a short block replacement, I’m not. So if it took my truck out of service for 20 business days, I’d be pursuing a buyback. If it were for a crate engine replacement, I probably would be OK with it. Plus I don’t expect a crate engine replacement to take that long.

Good strategy. If I had a 3rd gen I would probably feel the same way and take the same path. Good luck partner and sorry you have to go through all this :(

I'm hoping for a crate motor or a buyback. We are going on 12 months for a fuel filler tube replacement (not the clamp cover quick fix). How long are engines going to be?
