So, I am still toying with the idea of maybe trading my recalled 2023 SR5 for a higher trim 2024 and am just trying to see what is out there. I found some Platinums with TRD OR package which look attractive but want to compare those with some that have AVS... but the inventory tool is a PITA. The filters for "packages" do not align with the packages you see in the build tool so I can find no way to identify any with AVS short of looking at the listings for installed options or at the window stickers. Too much trouble. Does anyone know if any of the inventory tool package selections will find the AVS?

It was clunky a year ago while I was hunting for mine, same results in that had to look at window stickers. I also used autotrader searching for new with same challenges for details.

Good luck. Toyota online build and inventory tool is a clunker. All Toyota IT is as old as a Gen 2 Tundra

Yeah, I don't think you will find it with the Toyota inventory search, unfortunately. Air suspension is included with some of the power running board build packages on the platinum, which isn't a search filter. It would be nice if you could use exclusion filters since the ones with the TRD OR package will not have it.

The Manufacturer's inventory search tool is terrible. To find mine, I used Carguru which does have a feature filter for "Adaptive Suspension" which generally identifies the AVS option. Once you have some identified in CG you still need to go to the dealer's website and confirm the vehicle and its build by studying the window sticker. The other problem is not all dealers load their vehicles in Carguru or the other vehicle sales apps so you can easily miss some. At one time on this forum, there was an excellent spreadsheet that showed details of factory builds and ship dates.

Interesting, I hadn't thought of trying a third party like CG or Auto Trader.

But Toyota is not the only one with issues. A while back when I was looking at F150s (egads!) finding one with the standard bed was almost impossible since they had no filter for box size. I had to look at the photos and hope they were accurate. Toyota at least has a good box size filter. But it is amazing how bad this tech seems to be across the board. How hard can it be to set this up correctly?

My perspective - since you cannot buy direct from Toyota, there is no incentive to have the detail. The tool gets you enough information to lure you into a dealership - the main objective. This is frustrating as if you are doing your research, you are led to a place where you have to educated the salesman in many cases.

That's how it has always been, knowing more than the salesman about any vehicle I have bought.

Had the same experience and challenges finding the trim, bed length, packages and dealer installed configuration I wanted. Toyota inventory tools didn’t help. Ended up exhaustively searching the online inventory of all Toyota dealer websites within the radius I was willing to drive/fly to and then drive back from. Finally found my unicorn and ended up flying and then driving 7.5hrs back. Worth it to find what I really wanted and not settle for a compromise truck. Would be infinitely better if we could configure our Tundras and have them shipped to our dealers or even better our places of residence. Even had one “reserved” but took me a while to realize that’s just a crap shoot.

Well, CarGurus found exactly one with AVS in my area. But it is down in Fairfax which is a hideous drive around the Beltway and out I-66. I am not that motivated to do that trek, at least not today. But their search filters are pretty darned good.

You still have to verify on the dealer's website the build using the window sticker and availability.

Do the 3rd party tools show only "on the lot" vehicles, or all the allocated as well? I know Toyota's will show some in the build phase. Last year I had to look at the MSRP to guess which results had what I wanted. I would suggest asking a salesman to help give a list, but then again I think I found more options last year than my salesman did...

My dealer experience - they would help find the vehicle within the dealerships they would trade with and that took some push. Once I understood who they would swap with I did my own search as they were not really motivated.

Ultimately I flew/drove 650 miles to get the vehicle at the price I was willing to pay.

Bottom line: Getting the vehicle that checks your box(s) at a digestible cost is a considerable time investment. Caveat Emptor.

on the 22-23 tundra, the FIO code was AQ for the avs system

on 24+ the FIO code is NF which is the load leveling suspension + avs

The DK should be *included, for the price of the 1794, Platinum's and Pro's. The shrink-wrapped bundle was a bit cheap, and even though the whole concept of hard copy owner's manuals will be extinct soon enough, would've been nice.

DK option actually costs $6 (invoice price) from what i remember, but usually that cost isnt usually passed along to the customer.

edit: the dealer cost for DK is usually $6 but on the window sticker it shows no price. i have an old printout that actually shows the dealer cost of the DK option but the window sticker show no pricing.

Suggest you study offer price from Carvanna in lieu of trade. This allows you to sell existing truck local and opens up option to shop at a distance with either shipping or one way rental car for a pickup. Haggling is nearly eliminated.

Already did and got a decent offer. Still, a lot of depreciation.

My thought on trading to a Toyo dealer is that they might be more favorable since they could take their time to work the recall and sell it as refreshed to whatever extent the remedy does that, so maybe wouldn't try to discount the value for our recall situation. But I am not sure they are that smart or reasonable.

I am not current on the early Gen 3s. What is the recall for and why can't your dealer service it now?

Safety recall for engine main bearing failure. There are or were some long threads about it. Toyota still hasn't said what the remedy will be. It's gonna be ugly. 2024's and HVs are not on it. Yet.

Gotcha. I am aware of the engine failure problem but had missed the fact that it had gone to NHSTA Recall status. My bad. I quickly studied the NHSTA docs and remedy is not yet settled. Thanks.

Question regarding Toyotas that are still in the "build" phase. Is the dealer able to get Toyota to add certain options to a Tundra (ie. tow mirrors)?

there is a window where the dealer can request changes (if they are willing). so yes and no

my dealer is good and tried to remove the bedliner from the allocation but the factory said no.

I was also buying a Sienna at the same time and wanted the tow package removed from that allocation and the factory said yes and altered the build.

so, its a case by case basis and has a limited window, but you first have to have a willing dealer.
