Tank average 21. Just went for a hwy trip, 65-70 mph, of
42 miles and averaged 24 mpg. No complaints here, and I got to identify and ignore another Gen2.5 cry baby (edited to two cry babies!).

So I’m impressed with mine. I added 295/60/20 tires, a 2 in ready lift and it started at 13.5 mpg and has moved to 16.9 mpg. I do a lot of towing and it’s seems to be getting better. I have 15k now. Im pretty happy with my truck and I don’t understand why everybody keeps comparing the gen 2 to gen 3. They are different trucks made by the same company but both are still great trucks. Just my thoughts.

FYI... mpg comparisons are nothing but apples and oranges. Level terrain mostly, hilly terrain, mountainous terrain, altitude, lift, aftermarket bumpers, tires, skids, topper, speed, etc? So many factors come into play when it comes to mpgs. This has been discussed to ad infinitum here over the years on the forum. It's right up there with "the oil I use is the best" threads. Just sayin

If you want great MPG and a reliabile engine, the babymax 3.0L 1/2 ton should be top of your list.

Not hating in here, but the numbers don't lie.

I have another build coming but I am not sure what I want just yet. It is a ways out since I do not have my shop built yet. I could very well be a LandCruiser 80 series but not a Tundra

I got 9.2 towing the boat through the mountains on 35s yesterday.

If I wanted something efficient and unreliable I’d get a Rivian.

You’re just here to argue and stir the pot. If that’s how you want to spend your time, have at it, but don’t expect to come in here with untrue statements and not get called on it. Otherwise, have a nice day. I am not going to waste my precious time arguing with a rando on the internet.

3rd gen’s get roughly 25% better mpg non towing assuming a similar trim level. Towing it’s about a wash for mpg between both engines, the turbos also allow for max torque at half the rpm of a naturally aspirated v8. Albeit I do like the older style v8s. I’d blame the switch to smaller displacement turbo engines on government regulations and not the automakers. If Toyota could have made a heavier weight Tundra to be classified as a commercial aka 3/4 ton or bigger they could halve a heck of a work truck with some beefier suspension, axles and old school v8.

Just moseying through, but my lx600 3.4 Fulltime AWD gets significantly better mpg over my 5.7 Tundra 2wd. Even with under 1,000 miles on it its hitting the EPA hwy numbers. It weights exactly 6,000 lbs too.

Granted the tundra had some 33 inch e rated All Terrains on it.

Industry wide smaller displacement turbo charged engines have the "ability" to be more fuel efficient as long as you keep it's loading down, but as soon you load them up getting into positive manifold pressures (headwinds, high speeds, towing, altering aerodynamics with lifts, big tires, etc. etc.) They can and will burn fuel right up there with the biggest of V8s. On the other hand a large V8 you still need to "feed" all that displacement even when lightly loaded hense they top out at lower MPGs when lightly loaded.

My 2014 averaged 14.3mpg. Best I ever got on flat highways going the speed limit was 16.7mpg.

My 2023 has a lifetime average of 18.1mpg. I consistently get 21-23mpg highway and I've seen up to 26mpg.

That's a 27% increase for my average tanks and 38+% on the highway.

Besides better fuel economy, the 3.4TT has so much more usable low end torque. The overall drivability is much improved. Way less gear-hunting. Small grades and headwinds are no longer noticable.

I know right?! I give OP 0/10 on originality for this thread.

I blast across Montana at 87mph and get 18.5 mpg. If I slow down to 65 mph I get 21 mpg and change. Aerodynamics 101. Doing some math assuming 2nd gen is getting 14 mpg at 87 mph which I'm not sure of I get 25% better fuel economy and spend 25% less on fuel.

I've driven cross country from Colorado to the east coast twice in my '23 1794. Both trips were roughly 4000 miles roundtrip. The truck bed was fully loaded with stuff, my wife and 2 large dogs were in the cab. Total MPG for both trips was around 17, which included idling time at gas stations and food stops.

So the OP's first post about mileage is pretty accurate from my perspective. My truck is not lifted and has had 275/65 R20 tires on since new. 14K miles to date.

I'd really like to know what I'm doing differently than you guys who claim to be getting over 20 mpg.
