Just seems weird to me, I am used to having to put the key in the ignition to pass the security then the brake can be touched and your off. I have a different remote start

Okay, thought you did given you mentioned being used to a key and then pressing the brake, but yeah eventually I’d like to create a plug a play keycard similar to BMW where the key is added into Apple Pay, and on the watch so it just works with my phone/watch being near by, that way I can get rid of the fob completely. Ive got a list of things to slowly complete, likely heated steering wheel, better head unit, speakers, sound deadening, extra 55gal fuel cell, 37’s and a regear with a super charger and sun roof delete, it’s just picking the order and balancing the intrusive thoughts to not modify the daily too much and focus on the project car lol.

Is the remote start only on the push buttons? I recently purchased a 21 with a key and I was not aware if mine had the remote start or not

Not exactly sure what you mean by “The remote start” but if you have a key tundra pick basically any system you like the best and install it for remote start without the door turning off the engine. If you mean factory Toyota equipment remote start no idea give it a try lock ~beeps~- lock ~beeps~- lock(hold) ~flashing lights~

Sorry, I just read what I wrote and I obviously had my head somewhere else. Sorry for the confusion, my error

Yes I have a key and I meant to say I do not have a button and never will. I am not fond of it in the 4Runner but it is what it is so far.

Well it’s done, and wow hey look here’s another option that I can say works.

    https://www.n2designsinc.com/toyota-key-takeover-kits

I’m not advocating for any brand as “my seal” as we’ll see options from even more brands come out and I had a slight hand in a few large players in the remote start and security systems field, like mentioned before each has slight differences.

I will say I have personally used the n2 kit and it works, you may notice if you buy from them, the instruction manual is me, my sausage fingers and my tundra.

I do still want this to be open sourced totally at some point but from the information I’ve learned I see the current complications with such, and hardware capabilities. This is totally possible as a DIY project but now there is off the shelf plug and play options available so….

I guess really this is mission accomplished as my original goal was one way or another get remote start working how “Ford” kinda does it and now we have one of the closest I feel possible at the moment. Full working take over with the door opening not killing the engine.

We’ll see what gets tackled next, I’m not convinced yet between Heated steering wheel, HVAC control swap for Canadian trucks to get leveled heating seats, DCM removal and keeping factory mic, or some kind of new headunit integration. Or just running the truck into the ground letting it be the work horse it should be while focusing on my other cars and projects.
