Why no new posts in the engine failures thread?

Why are there so few additions to the engine failures three? 18 for this year. 1 or 2 2024's. It seems like with +/-10,000,000/day being driven and 10,000's of units in service the failures should be accelerating.
    I don't think it's a mod issue?

I keep seeing Gen IIIs on the road being driven with folks with big smiles. I see much more than I expected. Just may take advantage of this seemingly overblown situation sooner than expected by driving my freshly washed and waxed '21 to one of the dealers knocking 5 grand off a new '24.

I won’t tell you what to do, but I did my own math and risk evaluation, and decided it was a great time to buy. Got a pretty steep discount on my gently used 23 Capstone, and love it. I got an extended warranty just to ease my mind even more. If you’re someone that doesn’t lose sleep over a relatively low percentage chance of what might happen, the opportunity is tough to ignore.

Just like stocks, when everyone is panic selling, there’s opportunity.

Yep. Buy low, sell high! There are deals to be had. Might as well take advantage if so inclined.

I only wish Toyota would hurry up and declare what the remedy is for the units it has recalled, so any new buyers can judge how even the worst case scenario would be resolved even in the chance that their truck could be affected in the future.

Still, why aren’t more failures being posted? They should be escalating rapidly.

Just speculating, but it could be that Toyota did actually find the issue and corrected it. Those vehicles that had it, tended to fail early. It’s possible that the vehicles reporting failure outside the recall range are outliers as there are always going to be a certain amount of engine failures.

In other words, maybe the issue has already happened to the majority of vehicles it was going to impact.

Maybe Toyota has secretly quieted everyone? Did they do that with the turbo issue?

when I bought mine the consensus at the dealer was "we saw a few back there with the cabs off, but it's been awhile" regarding the great turbo scare of 2022

Very curious on this too. What are the best deals to Take advantage right now? Is it more new or used 2023’s?

The service manager told me a few days ago that they didn’t have any failed engines they were working on. I too am wanting to keep an eye on the ‘24 failures.

10 million miles a day and 250,000 units in service. There have to be a lot more failing.
Maybe Toyota is taking them to a specific repair facility so they don't show up at dealers?

Some portion of those would still be showing up on the engine failures stickie right? With age, miles driven and units in service the engine failures reported should be up 3x at least.

You raise a great point though. A central question to ask of any manufacturer in this current day, is how many vehicles do they have on their back lot that have been there >30 days. After I had a rough experience I was surprised to learn about the zombie count at most dealers.

Stevenson's does have this advisory, which is notable:

"RECALL NOTICE: Some vehicles offered for sale may be subject to unrepaired manufacturer safety recalls. To determine the recall status of a vehicle, visit https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls."

Here's a quick look at current pricing. Plus $1000-2000 rebates. +$1000 if it's on the ground. The Market is flooded with pick ups of all types.

I think they keep their back row hidden, or it’s hard to know where it is. It’s a sprawling place. It’s a good point though not to trust simple questions/answers.

That's odd. I thought they weren't able to sell them if there's an active recall. I admit I don't know this for a fact. Just something I recently read here in one of the threads

I don’t there is anything new about their policy statement. The issue is that Lexus will not CPO a car with an open recall. They’ve got takata units they can’t cpo with no end in sight

    Lots of stuff!
I think the stop sale applies to in-stock 2022's and 2023's. The 2024's are open game and ripe for the pickin' :)

My dealer doesn't want my 2022 to soil their lot full of 2024's, so I have basically been told that it isn't worth much to them as a trade (maybe 50% of what I paid for it).
They said they are "sorry for my situation" (owning a 2022 Tundra) but nothing they can do to help!

So mine wont have an engine failure as I am using a 2023 Tacoma that I borrowed from a friend.

My wife has some plants to put in the engine bay and bed as the Tundra becomes a garden planter!

I am going to be getting a lemon yellow wrap for it and then I will park it in front of the dealership everyday.

I missed it. The stickie thread? The recall thread needed to die a miserable death.

EDIT: the typical flow was a low post count or current member would post a my truck died post. @Colorado would post that or ask them to post in the stickie and he policed no discussion. That's not happening now? The stickie is still there.

Yup. My 2022 Platinum (non hybrid) has given me zero problems. First oil change at 1k and every 5k after, all at my fantastic dealer so everything is on record.

I already purchased the 100k warranty and figure one of three things will happen. A shortblock/longblock replacement (fine with me), a lifetime engine warranty (Again ok with me as I’ll run this thing till the wheels fall off, or Buyback from Toyota which I may either get another Tundra or sell off my camper or tow it with my wife’s 4Runner (3,000 lbs) and get a Corolla to save gas and use for commuting to work and buy a Supra for the weekends.

I can say I’ve almost had my fill of this site with all the end is near speculation and the 1st and 2nd Gen people constantly reminding everyone of the 5.7L superiority. I had a 2016 SR5 with the 5.7L, it was a great truck but I enjoy all the comforts of my 2022. Until anyone on this forum buys me my next vehicle I could give 10 fucks less on other people’s anecdotal evidence.

    Lots of stuff!
I think the numbers were sort of like 840 failures in about 102,000 trucks so more like ~ 1 in 121 (probably more like 1 in 100).

If I had these odds, in playing the Powerball, I would be all over it :)

However, with my luck, I would win the Tundra sweepstakes.

I am going to suggest that each Tundra comes with a prepaid AAA, CAA membership as a perk to ownership.
