Hey all, replaced the AC evap core on 2008 Tundra, everything is back together and plugged in (hopefully)... Now cranks but not starting. Battery is good, checked fuses, thought maybe a problem with the key or alarm system because everything was unplugged the whole dash and steering wheel... Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

*posting for my husband because he is stumped but keeps trying and is going crazy

Try spraying starting fluid in air intake while cranking. If it sort of runs momentarily, not getting fuel. If nothing, not getting fire. Then troubleshoot further.

Okay, it did start for 1/2 a second then nothing... so he is guessing fuel problem

Fuel pump only runs when cranking or running so don't expect to hear it running with ignition in on position.

Try other functions and see if everything else works, wipers, lights, brake lights, turn signals, hvac fan, etc. this might help you troubleshoot and narrow it down

Are you sure? Most gas vehicles I’ve chased fuel problems with will run the fuel pump for ~15 secs when the ignition is turned on, before starter is engaged, to build pressure. It might be worth swapping the fuel pump relay just to see. There are usually a couple other relays in the fuse box of the same type…if so, just switch with one and see whether it starts.

We just tried the relays are good, yeah he did say it would make a noise before like pressure up or something (we have had it since new so he said for sure it would make a noise)

So far everything was working we went through and tested it but he pulled half the dash out again to make sure so we are working on the latest right now...

The OBD 2 won't read and is showing an error

Good thinking…sometimes a break a fresh start is the best thing. This has to be maddening. You’ll get there. Good luck!

Probably just need to retrace your work. Something wasn’t put back together correctly. It’s frustrating for sure, but work through the process of replacement again and see if what got skipped reveals itself.

That's where we are right now going start taking part again and hopefully that's the case... maybe a pinched ground? So far everything that was plugged in was in right way in the sense it wasn't backwards seems like they are 1 directional or they won't plug in so far...

Will code reader function now? Idk for sure, but a bad crankshaft sensor reading being sent to the brain might cut off fuel supply in these trucks.

If you can't get anything through the OBD you should start with checking continuity on each pin to narrow down your search. Solve that first and even if it still doesn't start at least you might be able to info from it that will help.
Also, depending on how long you had the battery disconnected during the work, the ecm and immo ecu can get out of sync causing a crank no start scenario

We were at it again this morning and took whole dash off again couldn't find anything unplugged or smashed... husband thinks maybe a ECU? Or alarm/key issue like it thought the truck was being stolen? We are going to try the immobilizer OBD trick with a paper clip to see if we can reset keys? IDK he is totally stumped,

Yeah it's a possibility, but I wish you could read for codes before you do that, so it could show you the immobilizer code if that is the case.

The OBD 2 read for a minute when we did the 1st start up but it wouldn't start so after a few trys and checking simple connections he realized that one plug by the steering wheel that goes to the key wasn't in so he plugged that in and since no OBD reading, so he is thinking a key/theft response issue? I'm just the keyboard typer and emotional support who brings cold drinks lol

LIke I said it's possible although the immobilizer (key/theft response) doesn't disable the OBD port, that's why I'm concerned about the issue there. I wouldn't try to start it without fixing that, and there's a chance the paper clip won't work anyway if the OBD port isn't powered or incorrectly powered.
