    Friends-

I have been in 4Runners since 2002. We tow a 20' center console (soon to be a 23') and a small Winnebago. The 5000 pound limit on the 4Runner is limiting, and even with the 6000 pound in the new 4Runner, Landcruiser... they are not available yet. We did look at the Lexus GX550 but 6 month delivery and $2500 over MSRP. We don't play that game. Would actually buy a Sequoia but the 3rd row seat is a disaster in our opinion. So we test drove a Tundra, and fell in love. Can see ourselves hooking up trailer, hitting the road.

So here is the question. We have a 200' long relatively steep, twisty driveway. with the 4Runner I put in 4Low, and back it right up to the top. So I took a Tundra for a test drive, put in 4Low (I think), and started backing up. Went right into TRANSMISSION OVERHEAT... pull over to side of road, read owners manual.

Now, I am not sure I was really in 4L. The display showed 4H in green and 4L in amber. I realize it has to be shifted into Low in neutral. Honestly, I don't know if I backed it up drive in high or low, but I 100% got a transmission overheat.

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! I would post this in the 3rd Gen forum. Not everyone monitors the New Intros forum.

Sounds like you were in 4Hi. Doing work (like reversing several thousand pounds up a driveway) in 4H generates far more heat than in 4L.
