    Thanks & thanks!

Located the engine for $5 K, guy will swap it for $3 - $4 K depending on how much stuff breaks - we’re in New England and he’s not thrilled by the rust. The other $1 K was for the rental car until I worked out a back up (‘99 Saab - I’m a glutton for punishment).

Really disgusted by the Toyota filter design - it’s a booby trap and there are lots of boobs out there.

    This!

The new 4th gen Tacoma uses the old style spin on oil filters.

Never had an issue with the local service shops or dealers, however, I got tired of having to wake up early to get my place in line or having to wait for an hour or more to be ready.
I enjoy wrenching on my vehicles and gives me the peace of mind.

Jowett's filter cap w/valve + fumoto valve on the oil pan makes changes easy and almost mess free. With this, the biggest hassle is getting rid of old oil.

Jowett stopped making that filter cap.

I use a local "quickie" lube for my work truck, never a problem BUT if the owner is not there I do not let the "techs" touch the truck. I do my Tundra myself and yes it has an aluminum canister.

That sucks. That's what I'm going to do if mine ends up with any symptoms of a damaged engine. It's been about 10k, and no noise or anything, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. But if it did get damaged from driving 500+ miles while losing oil until I caught it and only had 1.5 qts left, then I'll get a used one from a salvage yard from a wrecked on. Much cheaper. I saw on Toyota Parts.com that you can buy a brand new 5.7l engine for $25,000! I wonder how many 5.7L were produced worldwide? Is there any other V8 produced by any manufacturer that is as ubiquitous as Toyota's 5.7? They are in so many vehicles sold on most every continents. In my opinion, there is no better V8 made. Oh, and Valvoline Express Care, or Valvoline Instant Oil Change, either at the local or corporate level are not responding to my letters. Valvoline Executive Customer Care have been great over the phone, but they can't write me a check. All I want is what it cost me to correct their mistake, but all I'm getting is crickets...Best of luck!

I wonder what a Cummins or an LS swap would cost

I had to go to Valvoline weekend before last, the change was definitely due, and instead of doing it myself on Saturday, I had to make a last-minute trip to NY. Got almost 8 quarts of 0W-20 full synthetic (I know there's some debate over using 0W, and 5W. I might've preferred 5W for the summer, but I think it'll be OK), made the trip with no issues. Only thing I've noticed is the front skid plate rattles a bit now, should be an easy fix.

Unless they sheared a bolt or three, which happened to me. Good luck!
