CAI & Exhaust

I am looking to start doing some mild mods to my 2005 Tundra SR5 DC. Looking for mild hp gains from the two. Was looking at the afe or k&n cai. Exhaust I'm not sure. Probably just something with a single exit, not worried about duals. Anyone have any opinion or info on what they've used?

 

On mine I have the k&n cai. Exhaust I went with borla. Mine is duel can can get them single. On my build page.

As far as hp gains its there. Made the engine more alive. It really shows on top end and on bottom end too.

Borla is not loud almost like factory till you get on it.

Get on youtube with some headphones and away you go if you are looking for sound.

 

I want to hear it but I don't want it to be obnoxious. Thanks for the input. Is your filter one you oil?

 

Yes you oil it. I clean it about once a year.

As for the borla its not obnoxious.

I just installed the afe pro dry cai. I don't like oiled filter, too much of a pita.... so far I like it. Throttle response really improved.
I'm saving for exhaust currently. Gonna go with banks single exit.

 

I have been looking at the k&n and afe intakes. Both seem to be comparable.

 

they are very close it just more of what you like best. Reason i went with k&n is there warranty. For me when i do my annual inspection on my trucks, i just take the filter off clean it and next morning ready to go again. over night to dry is no biggie and what 20 mins oiling it back up.


I forget what AFE is on there's.

 

K&N has a shield to go around it to keep heat out.

Where the Afe has a cage system in away. Different design but same effect what i have seen for there tundra 00 to 04 models.

 

Yes mine has a box around it. Based on my UG I just installed, cruise g down the road. Intake air Temps stay around 20- 30 degrees over outside temp... is that good? Got me.... I haven't paid that much attention to it on a stock tundra. I'm sure it's better than stock...

Depends you need reading before and after the mod to get any real world numbers. Mine I think went up only 5 degrees. Not enough to worry about.

My tacoma has a snorkel on it plus a modded intake and it lost about 16 to 25 degrees switching to snorkel.

 

Long as you know the limits you will be fine. If going deep get a snorkel. Most engines can injest alittle water and still pass fine. Just dont flood it with water.

 

I have the TRD intake and exhaust. I love the sound they make together. Obviously truck feels punchier, but I am not sure how much of that is psychological, haha.
