I haven’t said a single thing defending Toyota or that would tell you brand loyalty other than I like my truck and I’m ignoring the schizophrenic paranoia on here.

@paulphilly my offer to trade you strait across clear title for clear title still stands. I’ll help you out and take the risk. My 2007 is even in your preferred color of white.

    Let me know!

:rofl:I hate white. And, I actually had an '07, back in '07. Wish I would have kept it. But, if you had a '21 TRD Pro with low miles, pink slip for pink slip all day...but it can't be white ;)

Yes anyone who doesn’t freak out and set their own hair on fire should work for Toyota.

Pardon me for giving Toyota ANY benefit of the doubt; I only have over 400k trouble-free miles never having been stranded or had to fork out $$$ for major repairs on the Toyota/Lexus vehicles I’ve owned in the last 8 years.

Take a few deep breaths. You sound like you’re from Philly

New poster here...owner of a '23 SR5 and catching up with this wonderful issue.

First things first... my responses are 3, 5 and 7.

Question: I called Toyota directly this morning, gave them my VIN, and asked if mine was one of the impacted (~96K or so) Tundras.

The only recall that showed up under that VIN was that plastic fuel line issue, and nothing about an engine recall. Is it too early to know whether mine is affected or not?

This waiting part sucks, but just wondering if anyone else has called and heard that theirs was affected.

    Thanks, Drew

What if I told you it was also showing some rust red, and gray primer? It’s also now a mix of gloss white, and matte white in unique pattern! The cool kids call it “patina” you want to be a cool kid don’t you?

2/23 or earlier builds currently affected. Reports of late 23 and 24 models affected as well but build dates unknown currently. There is an extensive document Toyota filed with NHSTA on here that explains their current analysis.

I'm going to take a very radical view that I'll get crushed for. I think Toyota may know what they're doing. They could have the problem ring fenced and the process changed implemented. The problem is the remediation and they are taking 6 weeks to figure out what to do and can they operationalize that process.

Thanks, Cactus. Mine was built "02/23"...but thought I saw something that said it was through Feb. 13.

So perhaps Feb. 14 and on would not be affected? Who knows.

Now Now Terndy, take a few deep breaths yourself because you know there are already enough incompetent people working at Toyota and it starts with Mr. Toyoda himself upload_2024-6-12_12-6-57.png.

Respectfully, it's easy to give Toyota the benefit when your wife drives the LX570 (Japan built and bulletproof) and you drive a 2nd gen Tundra. As I offered before, want to buy my Tundra? Or, why haven't you traded in on a 3rd gen yourself? Would love to hear how Toyota would still receive the benefit of the doubt. I also gave Toyota the benefit of doubt from previous ownership experiences (200 Land Cruiser, Lexus LX470's, 4Runners). However, I have since been proven VERY wrong and after the CEO recently admitted to lying, and after the safety recall clearly is hypocritical with smoke screens, I see that the grandson of the founder of Toyota has made the company void of integrity and craftmanship. Being from Music City, the music you're listening to is seemingly distorted.

Thanks...mine isn't listed either, and is a "02/23" build. Does that mean we are in the clear, or too early to tell?

I won't crush you over this theory. Just about speculating! ;-). While anything is possible, who the heck knows what Toyota knows, is thinking and doing??

Let's say you're right, and Toyota knows what they are doing (I don't think they have a clue), then why supply dealers with defective short block replacements where some members have to have 2 if not 3 installed unsuccessfully? Why issue a hypocritical smoke screen safety recall that has proven to be falsified and void of safety protocols to protect everyone? They knew and still know there isn't a fix (working on it now as the NHTSA is holding them to the fire of course). And, because it's a safety recall, the safety portion has to be eliminated to satisfy the NHTSA which as many have said can only be done with a complete long block replacement with new turbos, redesign proven to fix old defective design, etc. THEN comes the fun part....yay!!! We all get to take our trucks to our local Toyota service dept. for young Billy to stop doing oil changes for a month to disassemble your truck, scatter the truck parts and engine everywhere, and somehow a few weeks later reassemble back to like new condition, albeit while completing many other oil changing jobs during that time.

I do believe Toyota knows what they are doing, but it's not with our best interest and safety in mind. However, to appease the NHTSA, they will come out with an attempted fix while focusing on doing it in the least financial impactful way they can. Hence, the complete engine and turbo replacement is unlikely.

Drew, nobody is in the clear. Toyota has tried to replace short blocks for those with failures and have been proven to fail as well. So, it was a band-aid and clear indication Toyota doesn't know the fix yet. '23-'24 post recall production trucks are having the engine failures as well. I hope yours doesn't die anytime soon, but failures have occurred from very low miles up to some over 60k and anywhere in between. The recall will, undoubtedly be extended through the '24 model year builds. However, Toyota has not implemented the stop sale on the late '23-'24 hybrid/non-hybrids yet because they want to keep selling them, even though they know each one contains a defective engine.

This is Toyota's way of reaffirming the president's new motto - "I love what you do for me, and we don't care about what we do for you, Toyota!".

Pump the pity party brakes for a minute there my dude.

1.) The examples of multiple failed short blocks are possibly from early attempts before improvements in production were implemented. Alternatively they were performed with contaminated parts from the old engine assembly, or incorrectly assembled at the dealership.

2.) The kid doing oil changes isn’t working on engine replacements. Toyota will not pay warranty claims unless a master technician or diagnostic master technician is doing that kind of work.

3.) Short blocks are pretty clearly not going to be realistic for this scale of replacement campaign, Toyota is going to have to figure out a change to their system and supply long blocks. This solves assembly errors, possible re-contamination, and also cuts down the labor costs by magnitudes.

4.) Toyota has to figure out an inspection process and possibly tools that can be taught and supplied to dealer techs to accurately identify defective engines and narrow down engine replacements to trucks that actually need them.

I don’t own a 3rd Gen, I don’t particularly like how Toyota designed the 3rd Gen, I have no plans to buy one either. So I’m not a fan boy at all. My advice is to take a deep breath, drive your truck, and see what happens next month once Toyota rolls out their remedy process.

While they are actually dealing with 100,000+ motor recall LOL, gaslighting is GT3's MO because he had the worst experience ever with a Ford. He fails to think about someone having the same experience with a new Tundra.

I sure will, after I dump my unsafe, defective, lego build quality paper weight

BTW, glad you chimed in. You mentioned in a previous post that you took your daughter camping, and not once did you think about the engine failing? Not once did you consider the engine imploding leaving you and your daughter in harm's way while trying to safely navigate to the side of the road?

Man, if both of those statements are true, I want your autograph because you must you have been Mr. Miyagi's most cherished student. I mean, with that level of mental fortitude and ability to 100% disconnect while knowing you're operating a ticking time bomb with family in tow is unprecedented and maybe even immortal. But, the more I think about it, I then realize Daniel got his ass kicked and if not for one lucky crane kick, never would have brought home the all-valley trophy. Therefore, respectfully I have to call upload_2024-6-12_13-2-56.png
