This situation has some similarity to the VW TDI problem. Once the bad news was out, resale values were destroyed, VW had no way to reasonably fix the cars in a timely manner, and folks couldn't sell them b/c nobody wanted a car that couldn't be fixed.

That is how the buybacks became a reality...among EPA violations. I owned a 2012 Golf TDI and by the time I sold it back to VW, I came out almost as better than new considering how long I drove it. My fear here is these engine problems, for some, could be worse than the TDI issue b/c those cars were not stranding people.

LOL, it’s just dawned on a used car manager somewhere that they just got fucked by a customer for a change.

Like the factory's are " protected from the elements to avoid further contamination ". What bubble you live in? over a month lol. Build an engine in a day. And BTW my engine is still performing as new.

This isn't the same thing and no where close. VW lied about the emissions, not sure where you are getting unfixable engines from. Lied about the emissions to pass.

The guy asked me if I wanted to do a 24 Tacoma instead, I immediately saw flashes of history repeating itself in two years

I’ll bet the T24A-FTS is quite a bit more well executed that the V35A-FTS.

It’s been in use in a few other vehicles and no failures yet that I’m aware of.

I think you’re right. This video popped up in my feed but they didn’t change the oil in 46k miles

Yep, the 8AR-FTS came out in 2014 or 2015 and is the direct predecessor to the T24A-FTS. All the lessons learned benefit the new turbo 4.

No oil chance for 46K miles and no main bearing failed. Just started burning oil like a dirty bastage and ruined the cylinder bores.

I'm going to initiate a buy back request. It's my best option for getting any kind of lost value out of the truck.

Mine is a 2023 SR5 crewmax paid off and only 12 thousand miles. Went back to the dealer to have something looked at. I saw a lifted one looked nice drove it and said no thanks especially when they were only going to give me 49 thousand for it.

    Nice rig!!

I came from a 2017 TRD OR. Gave it to my kid so it's still in the family. Very solid truck, you can't go wrong with a Taco!

Most of the people on her raging on about lost value, dump the truck at first chance, stay away from the gen 3, probably all have poly B plumbing in their homes that will all spring a leak one day and cause damage , yet continue to live in the same house and ignore the fact. Kinda ironic in a way .

Fully understand people trying to get out of their truck while they can; and those who've decided to ride it out with their truck, so to speak. No right or wrong answer here. My hope is Toyota quickly outlines an extended warranty plan that will give current owners under the recall--and beyond--some modicum of security until the problem is fully resolved. Although it does not reach the level of the Tundra debacle, the Rav4 hybrid cable corrosion issue was dealt with through a warranty extension (although not to the satisfaction of many).

Ugh, now it makes perfect sense. Once you said you're a Ford guy, your credibility tanked worse than 3rd gen resale value.

I am currently in the process of working with several dealers and hope to unload this ticking time bomb asap. And seriously dude, if I purchased a Ford again ('22 Raptor with QC issues worse than a Pontiac Aztec), I would have to hire a therapist to help with those long sleepless nights wondering why I purchased a turd with the worst reliability ratings across the board....and that is saying something considering how bad the 3rd gen Tundra is

Respectfully, I don't think you've made any point at all, at least not one with substance. I understand why a Ford troll like yourself is here to rub salt into the wound because frankly, you own a Ford and probably get tired of the constant QC related threads in the Ford forums. So, if it makes you feel better to call me a little barky Chihuahua (great reference btw, and hilarious), then please do so. If I may be so inclined to offer you an equivalent pet reference based on your posts, I would have to say they are like the Sitehound, a.k.a Afghan Hound. You're probably familiar with the breed but just in case, here is the definition as provided by the AKC: "The eye-catching sighthound will consistently score low on IQ tests and “The Intelligence of Dogs” officially ranks them as the least intelligent dog breed of all. They score exceptionally low for obedience and adaptive intelligence." I think your posts are clearly indicative of such a bread.

Btw, just curious if you're interested in buying my Tundra? Maybe that is why you stalk the forum and if so, PM me as I will make you a great offer. '24 TRD Pro, just over 2500 miles, debris in 2nd oil change but hey, it's a Toyota and will be covered under warranty when the engine replacement is soon needed. Cheers dude :dancingbacon:

As some of you may remember I was a service director for multiple Ford dealers and now am currently one for a cdjr platform. I assure you being all the crap I have seen over 20 years not being handled correctly (5.4 liter, 6.0, 3.5 turbo issues, 6.4 terrible pile of crap) now moving to dodge (#everything lol, mainly 3.0 diesel is an absolute piece of s**t, 3.6 liter coolant intrusion which Stellantis does zero about). This is Toyota actually doing something early on to get an ahead of the game. I do feel sorry for some of you with failures as that sucks big time. From my experience just drive it and ignore the naysayers if you have zero problems, when the recall comes out perform it and move on)

    end of rant

Yep, most folks have never owned a new vehicle that would require one. Are this guy and dogrunner Toyota execs? I've never seen such denial, bordering on delusion. Folks with failed motors in this thread and they belittle others that think it might happen. What a joke.

If you have exceeded the typical mile range for this issue then you are likely good to go, regardless if you are in the recall window or not. ( although the recent 35,700 mile failure is spooky).

this is because the set of parts in your engine are in a statistical golden window.

if I had 37,000 miles or more I’d have few worries.

They wouldnt do something super risky/ unproven in the Taco- they are way too dominat in the segment to do something even remotely risky. Hell the turbo 4 has enough people's panties in a bunch as it is.

Let’s face it, any new motor Toyota comes out with never be my 22re in my 86 4Runner! I even sometimes compare to such a bulletproof motor and fill myself with thoughts of disappointment lol
