Spending (more like investing) $1000-$1500 for a used replacement frame sounds like a no brainer to me.

Just a tip, if you want to respond to a specific post or person, just click the quote button in the bottom right. Much easier than what you're doing.

i must have worded that incorrectly. I don’t have an avatar here on this website. What i meant was that the 2000 tundra that’s in my “vehicle description” that’s BELOW my screen name. I found, bought, transported, and then did a budget repair for him. Like super basic fix. It was going to be a work truck for him, so i didn’t even bother repainting any body panels that i replaced. He drove it around for about 5 years before a tree crashed into it while his daughter (my niece) was driving it. I ended up retaining the truck after that incident, then drove it as a rolling scrap heap for the next full year....which later donated its entire drivetrain (engine, tranny, T case, front 4wd bits) into a 2004 2wd tundra that had a blown engine.

What is the ballpark figure that you purchased it at? I'm really curious about these auctions for damaged tundras, I need to find a second work truck.

I believe in 2012-2014 on tundra talk a member chopped the rear frame to convert either long bed to short or other way around. I tried to search but gave up.

    I remember that thread.

I never knew if he finished up that project or not.

I'm aware how overbuilt the Tundra frames are, so I had no issue with him sectioning the frame.

I'm not sure. I left the site. But he sectioned it with quality welds and had a nice king shock setup.

I paid $11,200 plus auction fees and transport of about 400 miles. Total was about $13,500.

Screen Shot 2024-06-21 at 5.26.11 PM.png Screen Shot 2024-06-21 at 5.25.43 PM.png UPDATE:: I found a local off-road Fab shop that is going to install a Multi-link rear suspension with coilover shocks and panhard rod, similar to the picture. The way these work, it will all be in front of the damaged area. No more leaf springs either. Then the damaged area will be cut off and replaced with probably rectangle tube, so I can do my flatbed. They inspected the rest of the frame and said it was fine.

Thanks ! I have had good success in the past buying a travel trailer and a small Dual Sport Motor cycle from Copart. Both I was able to fix myself and saved considerable $. And I kinda like keep them form going to scrap yard too...
