Nah. We do have rattlesnakes in TN but not super abundant. This one should be harmless. Of course it happens while I'm out of town and my wife happened to be on the deck when it appeared. She was not pleased.

I was just curious if any recognized the species.

possibly diamond back or southern Wurder (water lol) snek

but I'm super bad at IDing sneks unless the pattern is super distinct. The give away is the round pupils. Issa nice noodle

I would if I was home. It's actually illegal to kill a snake in TN, even the dangerous ones.

I remember swinging garter snakes over my head as a kid and tossing them at the girls. I was a real terror as a little kid now that I think back on it. That and the tree frog races across the busy street. That did not end well.

When you die you have to live the life of everything you kill. I'm gonna have to spend f'n decades as butterflies. Looking forward to the life where i'm a grasshopper & get to damn near choke the asshat on the motorcycle that eats me.

Well I’d be at the back of the line because there were 20 people in front of me doing worse. Two of them are state cops now, so…..theory busted.

Head shape says venemous, but body says gray rat snake. Harmless. Actually, good one to have around unless you like rodents.

this is why I say water snek. Typically have the fat head to mimic the moccasin. But the pupils will be round. There's a scientific reason for it but I can't remember. I think Forest Galante mentions it. But a moccasins pupils are slits.

It's a classic rat snake body and coloring for our region, though. I see them all the time here.

I think there's an optical illusion making the snake's head look like a diamond. I think there's a small granite rock between the snake's head and the hardyboard siding that blends in, making it look diamond-shaped.

basically keep him around. They kill rodents. And are really only around if there are rodents. You should probably have a pest guy come look for rodents. Lol

Honestly though. Pretty cute lil guy. Put him by the shed or in the truck and he'll clear all the rats that'll eat your soy based wiring.

I dunno what the blob is behind his eye closest to us, but it looks like that's a stick or rock following that ref line when you play with the colors in Photoshop.

    Weight reduction, mostly rust.
I don't think I've ever seen a snake with that tight a "frequency" in it's body curves.
Snakes are cool. No poisonous ones to speak of up here, rarely see them anymore though.
He better wait a while and get bigger to take on a rat lol
