Tire Suggestions - Mickey Thompson Baja Boss OR Nitto Ridge Grappler

Hello!! I need help deciding what tires to buy. I've read so many different reviews and researched...UGH. These are the days I miss my dad.

So, I have a 2019 Tundra CrewMax (1794 Edition) - 4x4 w/TRD Off Road. Last week, the dealer told me I needed new tires at 43k miles.

At the end of the day, I am trying to decide between Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT & Nitto Ridge Grappler, leaning more toward the MTs.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

 

I recently did a good bit of research and decided on some Milestar Patagonia XTs. They had a ton of good reviews and couldn’t beat the price. If you’re leaning towards an MT, they also have those as well.

Not either of the 2 you were deciding on, but just my $0.02.

 

What is your intended use for the tires? Looks? Loudness? Snow performance? Sand performance? Deep mud performance?

Both tires you are considering are great all-terrains but aren't without limitations. Providing a little more detail of your needs or preferences would allow us to offer suggestions or help steer you in the right direction.

In Iowa I run nitto. Happy with them. 350 day over 2 1/2 ×years running out west .held up.but I want to try these, never in stock though around here..

Had the MT Baja Boss AT's for 50K miles and getting ready to buy my second set. They handle great in rain, snow and mud. 275/70 18 on stock suspension no issues.

 

i run Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT in 297/70/18 and love them. Only downside is they are very heavy. First 2 out of 4 didn't balance but got 2 new ones and prefect since. Had them all over the east coast. Would be happy to run them again.

 

Mickey Thompson’s are produced by the Cooper Tire corp so you cant go wrong with them. Nittos are hit or miss from my experience.

 

Depends on the size I was in within 2 lbs of any other options and lighter than most.

Very happy with them no balancing issues 285/70/17s

Great in the wet had some light snow this week and not had to go into 4wd.

 

Anyone still watching this thread and have long term reviews?
I'm about 99% sure I'm going Baja Boss AT for my next set of shoes just curious is anyone has an opinion 20-30 k miles in

I'm notoriously hard on tires and prob average 30k miles before they are trash off road. Sell on CL for a bit of $ abd and then dump a boat load on a new set

Im currently running Yoko Geo MT and they are sooo loud and torn up from rocks (pretty much trash at this point)

 

Have about 30k miles on my Ridge Grapplers and still love them with no issues.

How are they in wet conditions and snow?
I'm in PNW, worn out Mud terrains are terrible
I've never run Nittos or Toyos, great reputation, just haven't tried them

 

I have about 7500 miles on the Baja Boss. They still look brand new.
Great in wet (we have had a TON of rain this year), great in snow, not terribly loud for as aggressive as they are.
Very happy with them.

 

Here in Oregon with the Baja boss MT and still amazing. 30+k on mine and I’ll say it again I won’t run another tire on my rig. They do it all

I probably will run my yokos through Seattle summer and buy a set in the fall.
Seems like from last years MT offer the same rebate in the fall. It's only $100 rebate but with 5 x 37" tires any little bit helps

 

I had narrowed it down to the MT Baja Boss ATs or the new Falken AT4Ws (which now have 3 ply sidewall and seen a bit more aggressive looking.
No real long term reviews though and it's a pretty big change (compound and pattern). I always try to stay away from something until it's been around a few years.
I haven't seen them in person, but by photos the Mickeys just look so much better.
Since I've just run mud terrains, I still want something that is still more aggressive looking in addition to performance.

 

Mickey AT is a great tire. Few buddies of mine run them and really enjoy them.

 

Your eyes do not deceive you. The Baja Boss AT is the best looking AT on the market. They perform incredible too. They are pigs though. Guessing it's not a major concern for you since you're running 37s. My 295s were pigs - like 70-75lbs/tire; If they made them in a 285/70/r18 c rating I'd have them again. A C-rating is what's on my wife's 4R

 

I asked my local Discount tire if they could get 1 of each in the shop for me to look at but they require a $25 deposit and since I'm not going to order right away I'll lose it. I should talk to the manger though I have been paying their rent last 5 years with my business

No wonder I'm broke!!

Yeah the Mickey's are heavy but the E-load Falkens in 37 are the same weight.
D-load Mickey's are 80lbs,
E-load Falken AT4W are 78lbs.
My current Yoko MTs (D-load) are 76lbs.
Goes to show the beef in the Mickey's they weigh more than Falken E loads with basically the same tread depth (MTs 18.5/32nds, Falken 19/32nds)

Just had Overland Torque Tune done, I definitely won't notice 4 lbs

 

Are the 295s E or D rating? That is Heavy for that size.
I threw out all hope of gas mileage once I lifted, 37s, armor etc.

 

They were E's. Really felt it in the butt dyno. Tow/haul mode helped, but what the truck really needed was a regear. 4.88's at least.

I went with 4.88s (at the time Nitro didn't sell 5.29s
Gotta say I was sceptical but the tune I had done made a BIG difference as well. It has way more responsiveness, passing speed increased. One purchase I definitely do not regret. Its not just a placebo effect, my mechanics both commented after a recent service asking if I had re-geared or something since my last visit. Also a buddy of mine who didn't know drove it a couple of weeks ago and was very surprised as well, asked what I had done to the truck.
I'm a believer. Tow / haul is now like a "turbo-lite"
