Fitting 295/70/18 with no BMC

Anyone have success with fitting 295/70/18 with no BMC? I know a lot of TRD pros have success. Getting my lift installed in a few weeks (3” front/ 1.75” rear. Zone control arms). I have a TRD OR with factory rims and 1.25” spacers. Shop said sometimes BMC is needed to fit 295’s. My state (BS NY) is known to fail trucks for inspection with BMC. Looking to do Falken AT4, KO3, or Toyo ATIII without the chop. I suppose my only option is to try and see what happens.

Right. With the 1.25” spacer on the stock rims, should be at +28.25. Hopefully that will be enough. If not, I’ll go 285’s.

 

The aftermarket wheels everyone runs, with more aggressive offsets, are the reason you need a lift or BMC to run 295s. Most 295s are truly somewhere between a 34-34.6” tire.

On stock TRD OR wheels, you really only need to remove the mudflaps and clearance the front bottom section of the fender liner, even for enough clearance for proper off roading. Any other rubbing is an alignment issue.

Looks great!I hope I can keep my wheel spacers. Love the tiny bit of poke. I know some tires aren’t “true to size” so to speak. Wonder if it also depends on what tire I go with.

 

All various brands and models of tires are up to an inch off of what their rated size is meant to be.

The tire manufacturers disclose the “true diameter” of their 295, but even that number can be slightly off due to rim width it’s mounted on, PSI you run them at, etc.

My Mickey Thompson Baja Boss ATs are like 34.5”.

 

I have 295's without BMC. Lift is just over 3.5 front and 2 rear. I run them on 0 offset 18x9's.

 

Sounds like I should be good then. Thanks. Just have to figure out the tire I want. Love the AT4W’s but they are so damn heavy. ATIII’s are a lot lighter, but not as good in wet climate or snow. Also more expensive by like $60 a tire. Running 285/65/18 ATIII now. I know I will hate how small they look with the lift.

Haha. Maybe one day. You’d need the BMC for those! I was ready to just chop mine and be done with it if it weren’t for passing inspection.

 

We don't have snow here but I run Ridge Grapplers. The ATIII's are nice. We have them on the 4Runner.

 

I’ve had good luck with them. Might stick with them but get them in 295. Extra cost might be worth the weight savings vs the AT4. 70lbs vs 62lbs. Is 32lbs enough to make a difference?? I know since it’s on the wheels it makes an impact of X3.

 

I originally had the 285/70 Ridge Grapplers. Those were 60 lbs. I moved to the 295/70 Ridge Grapplers which are 69 lbs. The truck didn't even flinch at the weight difference. The only issue I had with going to the 295 was gear hunting so I installed a speedometer calibration unit.

 

Gotcha. I have a tune currently. I’d have them update it to hopefully help with that. I would also do the speedo calibration. I think rough country makes one. Did you take a big hit on mpg going up?
