Never even knew that my favorite local brewery had a sci-fi Yellowstone show named after it. I'd rather drink the beer than watch it though.

I was a boy scout back in the late 60's. It has changed dramatically over the years. I'm meeting up with a retired friend and his wife later today at their mountain property. He was a scout master for years. He's disgusted with it now. The scouts went through a scandal that nearly bankrupted them and now girls are in. Not sure about Cub Scouts though. When I was kid, we went on 50 mile hikes at the then "Boy Scouts" Camp Melakwa summer camp in central Oregon twice. The third time was 70 miles with pack horses on the Pacific Crest Trail. All three years I went we got to learn climbing basics among other things of course and climbed the Middle Sister which got me into climbing. Jamboree for the most part are fun, but location plays a big part. Jamboree in Wyoming prolly doesn't have too much D&D going on, talking about guns and hunting would be a great talking point! Ha

I'll still never understand why you guys get so bent out of shape about girls being in scouts. They like those type of activities too and guides just doesn't cut it.

Sorry for the book below. I think it's mostly reactionary; but there's some validity to the sentiment.

There are so many corners of our social lives that are being disrupted by this generation and the one before it, forcing society to actively accept differing values and opinions, that some folks see it as an erosion of their ability to express their own values and opinions. As an older codger, I'm still 'wtf ever, dude - you do you' about it (generously slathered in facetiousness and sarcasm); but that's me. For the Boy Scouts topic and parenting kids of Boy Scouts age, I can see where all of these changes can be viewed as infringing on boyhood.

One of us here said Boy Scouts have let girls in for 50 years, and I guess that's probably true; but back then we could be ambiguous about it. At least as far as popular media makes it seem; today you can't be ambiguous about anything having to do with gender, race, or class differences without being labeled a bigot or oppressor. You're either an ally to their movement, or an enemy. Nothing in between.

However; and this is Steven's opinion here, so ymmv: At 6 or 8 or 10, tossing girls and boys together into a scouting activity is probably a good thing for both. If they don't have sisters or brothers at home they'll learn to deal with the opposite sex a little better; and hopefully the activities aren't separating them, teaching them in some subtle way that 'less or more' applies to their ability to solve problems based on their being a boy or girl. Once kids get past 16 or so, it's probably a good idea again, if you can be sensible about how it's chaperoned. But during that age in the middle there, some freedom of expression and an ability to develop a sense of self needs to happen. Everything boys of that age do is done in an emotional environment where they're trying to figure out issues of sexual attraction and how they're going to be viewed as a man. Scouts isn't like a school dance where the activity is pointed specifically at those problems; it's a place to learn about life outside of them, even though they're raging inside the heads of the kids the whole time.

If girls need a space to learn scouting and that kind of problem solving, at least in those awkward years where boys need their own space, girls' scouting options need to be improved; not their access to boys' scouting options.

I could retire and make about $10K less a year than what I make working.
Only issue is when I retire, they kick me off to Medicare at 65, in 3 years.
I need both shoulders and probably both knees replaced before it's all over.
As long as I'm working, I've got full coverage.

As well the longer I wait to collect SS, the more I'll get.
At least until they run out of money.
Then I'll have to move to Ukraine to get US assistance...:eek2:

Take care of the body @biebs96, a lot of this was 9 years of package and working out in my 20s like I was gonna die before 50.....:cool:

Don’t underestimate the value of that insurance.
I managed to package several fairly significant medical procedures within the last part of a single fiscal year and got about $980,000.00 worth for a single $12,000 deductible. I did get the cooperation of a couple of doctors to help me expedite procedures and get things done within the available window.
