Been having a few issues with tires wearing 15,000 TRD Pro.. Today highway driving left rear blew, by the time I could stop it was in pieces... Don't trust the rest, looking for a new set and not sure I want the same Falken ..any recommendations.

    Thank You

That tire is a run flat. It was run low on air because it probably has a nail or something in it somewhere. What kind of tire are you looking for? Similar tread pattern?

I have used Cooper Discoverer AT3 4s for years on other vechicles that I have owned. They are great in the snow (when I lived in MN), they channel water great in the rain, and they are quiet & smooth rideing on the highway. I have 4WD, but don't need it at the boat ramp when launching with these tires. I just put a new set on my 2021 Tundra Crewmax. The factory tires still had some mileage left, but I just enjoy the Coopers that much more.

Are you saying the Falken Wildpeak AT3Wa is a run flat tire?

No, I'm saying the reason sidewall is like that is because it had a nail or something in it to cause sidewalls to break down like that.

Due to loosing air thus the side wall rubs against itself causing friction and head....then it just separates.
Just trying to help @SWB Tundra

Luckily looks like the rim didn't get damaged.

Why is the truck on a flatbed? Do you not have a spare?

I examined the tire...really well and did not find anything, not saying there wasn't.. and the rim did not get damaged.. I was on the highway for a while when it happened. was in a real bad spot and got towed off, no room to get out of the truck...crazy !! Probably going to stay with the same size, I see some go to a 35 inch, really don't want to change with all the engine issues right now. I love my truck and engine runs very well, if there is a problem, have a warranty.. not worried about it..just the tires.. also what a pain lowering the spare and a piece broke off..that's for another day.

285/65r18 in non LT load rating are not common. I think the only 2 are the Falkens and now Michelin offers it. Go with the Michelins. They don't look the coolest but they are great tires.

I'll be the first to beat the rest of the Gen 2 folk and beat them to it.....should have bought a second gen!!!

Seriously though I put a set of 265/70/18 Toyo AT3's which fit perfectly on the take off TRD Pro Rims. A tiny bit not as wide and they are P rated and exactly the same size as stock height wise. Love Toyo's. Replacing the fake Falken OEM tires was a must that come on the Pro's because they are junk.

FYI the Falkens that are OEM are not the same as the ones you buy from the tire store they are usually called falken mildpeaks....A set of real falken wild peaks should serve you well, but damn something bad happened there to the wildpeaks. Did you have a low tire pressure warning light prior to the tire self destructing?

Expect a 3-4 mpg hit on gas mileage with an E rated 10 ply, just FYI so you aren't surprised.

My friend - I think you have been mis-informed....Thanks but when I looked they are a ten ply, that was the reason... but all the tires that I like are 10 ply and most say they are rough and loose mileage.. How are yours riding and mpg ? My oem Falkans are wearing fast and don't trust them.

    Thank You,
    Chuck

They ride like shit and the mpg sucks, 13 mpg avg. That being said, I did not buy a truck for the mpg's, so that's not of my concern. If you use the correct tire pressure they are not all that bad. You have to realize that those factory Falkens are the softest garbage you can put on a new truck so your test drive is good but they wear out in no time. The Coopers have performed phenomenally in the rain, snow, mud, etc. I'm about to put a set on my '24.

WTF nonsense did you just spout? who you addressing? No shit your falkens are wearing fast....looks like one of them is about 40% lighter. You asking how My Toyo AT3's in P265/70/18 are riding? They ride great and basically get the same as stock mpg wise compared to what I got with the Falken Mildpeaks. Is that what you're asking jeebs?

If you put E rated tires on your tuck you will loose 3-4 mpg and thats a fact. Dont' believe me and think I'm misinformed? Then go ahead and put some E rated tires on and report back after your first fill up. Sounds like you're going to do what you want so let er rip tater chip.

I would just change the one that failed, and I called the tire dealer, Toyota wanted $460 installed for the one..nope !. the rest of the tires after 15,000 look like 50,000... they no longer make the at3 now the at4 and the tread is a little different.. I think that would really mess up the handling.. and they do make them in c and d rating..not sure if I want to trust them again.. thank you again for all your help..time to decide !!

I just upgraded my wheels and tires. Got rid of the 20s on my limited and went down to 17s and added 285/75/17 about .1” under 34”. No rub or anything and I’m completely stock. Went with toyo open country AT3s with a C load rating (a little beefier than stock but not as stiff as a E rating tire). Have them on my old Tacoma and loved them. We don’t get crazy snow in middle Tennessee but we did get him with like 6 inches last winter and was very surprised how they handled in the snow and icy conditions. Only had them on since yesterday but couldn’t be happier with the look and ride. Tires are louder than stock but can be drown out by music no problem. Highly recommend the Toyos

I love my 275/70/18 BFG KO2's. You'll hear some complaints from others about them for various things however I have had great luck. I'm over 50K miles, the tread noise is low and they stay balanced well. All 4 are still around 7/32. Because they are heavier there is an effect on mpg's but my experience is 1-2 mpg. My truck is a pavement princess and I don't drive it hard. I have also had super luck with the Michelin Defenders.

I don’t know what Falken did to the tires they supplied Toyota but that has been my experience. Between my Tacoma and wife’s 4runner, we have over 100,000 miles combined on 2 sets. Never had issues.
